Illegal activities reported inside Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park

KOKJHAR, September 3, 2026 — Reports of alleged illegal activities inside Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park along the Indo-Bhutan border in Kokrajhar district have raised concerns over the protection of the park’s forests and wildlife.

According to local reports, valuable trees are allegedly being felled, forest land cleared and weed-killing chemicals used inside the protected area. Small huts are also reportedly being constructed within the park.

The alleged encroachment and continued forest clearance have raised concerns about the fragile ecosystem and wildlife habitat of the national park.

Environmentalist and wildlife activists have expressed resentment over the reported encroachment, tree felling and clearing of forest areas in and around the national park under the Bodoland Territorial Region.

They stressed that maintaining ecological balance is essential for protecting wildlife and ensuring the long-term sustainability of forest ecosystems.

“We must protect forest ecosystems through effective conservation initiatives. The concerned authorities need to take immediate and stringent action to prevent further encroachment, protect the forest and stop the destruction of valuable natural resources,” the activists said.
