Longtong village to celebrate Tuluni festival on July 8
All Assam Sema Naga Council to organise the Sümi community's premier agricultural festival in Tinsukia with traditional rituals, cultural performances and programmes promoting unity.
MARGHERITA, July 4, 2026 — The historic Longtong Sema Naga village under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency in Tinsukia district is set to celebrate the Tuluni festival on July 8 with traditional fervour and cultural splendour.
Organised under the auspices of the All Assam Sema Naga Council, the annual mid-year festival will bring together members of the Sümi (Sema) Naga community to observe their premier and most sacred agricultural festival, symbolising abundance, prosperity and community harmony.
Villagers are expected to participate in the celebrations dressed in traditional handwoven attire featuring the community's distinctive colours, beadwork and ceremonial headgear, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Sümi Nagas.
According to community leaders, the programme will begin with reflections on the historical significance of Tuluni, traditionally known as Anni. The festival marks the period between the completion of the crop-sowing season and the anticipation of a bountiful harvest, making it one of the most important events in the Sümi Naga cultural calendar.
Beyond its agricultural importance, Tuluni is also regarded as a festival of reconciliation and social harmony. Community elders said the occasion has traditionally been used to resolve disputes, strengthen relationships and reinforce bonds within the community.
The day-long programme on July 8 will feature traditional rituals, folk songs, cultural performances and indigenous dances that have been preserved and passed down through generations, reflecting the community's commitment to preserving its cultural identity.
