Two artistes from Dalgaon, Darrang district have started a tour on wheels to promote the cultural richness of Assam. The duo, Mrinal Dev Sarmah and  Jinku, in their mid 20s, will paint historical monuments of the respective places where they travel that uplift the cultural heritage of the state throughout their journey on bicycle.

Their journey was flagged off on Wednesday at Dalgaon. Their first destination is at Tezpur, the cultural capital of the state. “We felt that we have still plenty of monuments and other symbols which signify the glorious past of ours. But unfortunately, there are many people in our own state that they are not all aware of all these, let alone the people of the other states or country. So, it is a small effort on our part, being an artiste, to highlight our glory with our brush on canvas,” Mrinal Dev Sarmah, one of the artistes said.

On their stay at Tezpur, they will visit the historical places and paint to carry these for their next destination which is Nagaon. “So far the people of Tezpur have been very heart warming. We enjoyed a lot here. In the first phase we have a schedule of 10 days. Then we will work on our next schedule. As we are not being supported by any sponsors for the trip we need to make some money before we can start our next tour,” Sarmah added.
