Forest personnel arrested three persons in separate anti-poaching operations at Raimona National Park in Kokrajhar district, including an absconding accused in a 2024 spotted deer hunting case, while investigations continue to trace other suspected wildlife offenders.
KOKRAJHAR, July 13, 2026 — Forest department personnel and members of the Forest Protection Force apprehended three persons in separate anti-poaching operations conducted at Raimona National Park in Kokrajhar district on Sunday.
During a routine patrol between Compartment Nos. 6 and 7 under the Sanfan Range of Raimona National Park, the Janagaon Beat team apprehended Ramal Goyary, son of Santala Goyary and a resident of Bwrimakha FRA village in the Gongia area.
According to forest officials, Goyary, along with a few others, had allegedly entered the core area of the national park with the intention of fishing, which is prohibited within the protected area.
During interrogation, officials found that Ramal Goyary is an absconding accused in a wildlife offence case registered as O.R. No. SF/01 of 2024, dated July 15, 2024, in connection with the illegal hunting of a spotted deer inside the national park.
Forest officials said the other individuals accompanying him managed to flee before they could be apprehended. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the absconding suspects.
The Forest Department reiterated its commitment to protecting the rich biodiversity of Raimona National Park and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved in illegal activities such as poaching, fishing, and unauthorised entry into protected forest areas.
In another significant operation aimed at strengthening wildlife protection and conservation, officials of the Central Range of Raimona National Park apprehended two more persons allegedly involved in wildlife poaching.
The operation was launched following credible intelligence inputs received around 20–21 days ago regarding the movement and suspicious activities of five to six unidentified persons in the Right No. 6/7 area of the national park. Acting on the information, Forest Department officials intensified surveillance and carried out a detailed investigation.
Following continuous monitoring, intelligence gathering and coordinated planning, a joint operation was conducted by the Forest Department in collaboration with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspected poachers allegedly involved in the illegal hunting of endangered wildlife species in Raimona National Park.
The arrested persons were identified as Sukur Mushahary (35), son of Ramwnda Mushahary and a resident of Thakampur (Habrubil), and Parbeswar Narzary, son of Krishna Narzary and also a resident of Thakampur (Habrubil).
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were allegedly involved in illegal hunting and poaching activities targeting endangered wildlife species inhabiting the ecologically sensitive landscape of Raimona National Park. Authorities said the investigation is continuing to identify and apprehend other persons believed to be linked to the poaching network.
