Tragedy revisits Bongaon: one dead and one injured

While the tragedy of the tanker blast on 31st May at Bongaon under Kamargaon Police Station in Golaghat Dist. is still fresh in the minds of the people, another tragedy took place at the same spot on 6th June. A man named Chinku Sahu (30) was run down by an ambulance bearing no. AS-01/BC-9300, who died on the spot and a 12 year old boy named Sabin Saikia was also severely injured in the accident. He was admitted into NRL Hospital. Co-incidentally the father of the boy was injured in the Tanker blast and is currently undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. It is worth mentioning that the number of causalities in the tanker blast has gone up to 11 and yesterday’s accident added another victim to the total lives lost on the same spot.


After the accident the local people blocked NH-37 for about five hours demanding compensation for the victims and also repairing of faulty road construction which often leads to frequent accidents on the spot. The blockade has thrown traffic out of the gear on both side of the highway for nearly about 5 hours. The Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat, N.M. Hussain, arrived on the spot at about 8.30 pm at night and assuring the people of meeting their demands and then only the blockade was called off.
