The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) on Wednesday celebrated its 11th Foundation Day across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), with party leaders and workers marking the occasion by reflecting on the party's journey and reiterating their commitment to peace, development and inclusive governance.

The central celebration was held at the Martyr Sujit Narzary Memorial Auditorium at Athiabari near Ramfalbil in Kokrajhar, organised jointly by the UPPL's Kokrajhar district committee and Dotma block committee.

Founded on August 5, 2015, at Rongjashali Fwthar in Dotma under the leadership of Urkhao Gwra Brahma, the party has emerged as a major political force in the Bodoland region.

The programme began with the hoisting of the party flag by UPPL vice-president and former Deputy Chief Executive Member of the BTR, Gainda Chandra Basumatary, followed by floral tributes to martyrs. Former Cabinet minister and UPPL founder-president Urkhao Gwra Brahma also paid homage to the martyrs.

An 11-kg cake was cut to commemorate the party's 11-year journey. UPPL General Secretary (Administration) Raju Kumar Narzary led the cake-cutting ceremony and extended greetings to party leaders, workers, members and well-wishers.

An open meeting, chaired by UPPL vice-president and former BTCLA Speaker Katiram Boro, was attended by senior party leaders, including General Secretaries Raju Kumar Narzary and Madhab Chandra Chetry; vice-presidents Gainda Chandra Basumatary, Afjal Haque Sarkar, Menon Kumar Brahma, Dr. Ranjit Narzary and Dr. R.N. Sinha; and former BTR Executive Members Ranjit Basumatary and Ukil Mushahary.

Extending his greetings on the occasion, UPPL president and Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Boro said the party and the BTR government had worked over the past five years to promote peace, development and social transformation across the region.

"The Bodoland region has witnessed significant progress—from peace to development, and from hope to transformation. On the glorious 11th Foundation Day of our party, I extend my warm greetings to every member of our UPPL family," Boro said.

He added that the party's journey had been shaped by the trust of the people and its commitment to peace, progress, unity and justice.

"Let us continue working together for a stronger, more prosperous and harmonious Bodoland," he said.

Founder-president Urkhao Gwra Brahma also congratulated party members on the occasion, recalling the party's evolution from its modest beginnings in Dotma in 2015.

"From its humble beginning on August 5, 2015, at Dotma, UPPL has grown into a dynamic, progressive and people-centric political movement dedicated to safeguarding peace, ensuring inclusive development, and fulfilling the aspirations of the people of the Bodoland Territorial Region, Assam and the nation," he said.

He paid tribute to party leaders, workers and supporters for their contribution to the party's growth over the past 11 years.

Foundation Day celebrations were also organised in Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, Sonitpur and Biswanath districts.
