National Horti-Expo 2009 from 10th February at Guwahati

Governor of Assam Shiv Charan Mathur will formally inaugurate the India's premier horticulture show 'National Horti-Expo 2009', organized by the Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing, Assam and Department of Agriculture, Assam, on 11th February, 2009 at 12.15 pm at the campus of International Convention Centre, Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Guwahati, informs Mowsam Hazarika, Publicity Secretary, Steering Committee, National Horti-Expo 2009. The Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India has also supported this mega show, which is going to be held in Assam for the first time. The Indian Chamber of Commerce has actively rendering their service in the expo as an Associate Organizer. Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister, Assam will attend the Farmer's Rally & Closing Function of National Horti-Expo 2009 at 11.00am on 14th February, 2009. Both the programme will be presided over by Pramila Rani Brahma, Minister, Agriculture and WPT & BC, Assam. According to the final programme, the Exhibition and Competitions will be starts on 10th February, 2009 from 11am onwards. There will be Cultural Programme every evening from 10th to 14th February, 2009. Seminar on 'Business and Investment Opportunities in Horti-Agri Sector' will be held on 11th February at 11am to 4pm. Similarly, seminar on 'Frontier Technology in Horticulture-Production and Post Harvest Management' will be held on 12th February, 2009 from 10am to 4pm.. There will be two numbers of seminars, namely, 'Horticulture and Women-Emerging Trends' and 'Organic Farming- Production and Marketing' will be held on 13th February, 2009 from 10am to 4pm simultaneously. Several scientists and experts will take part in these seminars. There will be one training on 14th February, 2009, namely, 'Flower Arrangement, Decoration, Roof Top and Terrace Gardening' from 10am to 4pm.A Buyers' Sellers' Meet on Marketing Prospects of Horticultural Produces will be held on 14th February, 2009 from 10am to 4pm.

The peoples of this region will get chance to see the galaxy of horticultural wealth that the country possess, the North – East in particular & beautiful Assam under horticultural perspective in one platform. Hectic preparations are going on for successful organization of this Expo. According to Dr. Harshajyoti Barooah, Director, Horticulture and Food Processing, Assam said that, the main objective of the Expo is to accelerate the growth that has already taken place in horticultural sector in North East through Technology Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture and subsequently in the rest of the country through National Horticulture Mission. This platform will provide an opportunity to know each other's strength, achievements and thereby imbibe new ideas to further the growth of horticultural sector, he added.

Ministries of Agriculture, Trade and Commerce, Food Processing Industries, Central and State Government Departments, Public and Private R & D sectors, Farmers Groups, Buyers/ Sellers/Exporters/ Manufacturers of horticultural inputs, Policy makers , National Organizations associated with development of horticulture sector, Packaging and Processing Industries, Nursery sectors, Agro-Folk Cultural sectors etc. will participate in this Expo.

Three youth have been killed by suspected KLNLF militants in the wee hours of the November 3 morning in Nagaon district. The deceased were namely Jogesh Shah, Mahesh Shah, Pawan Sarmah. The former two belong to Bihari Community. According to the reports last came in, the incident took place due to monetary reason.
