Guwahati: Union home minister Amit Shah virtually threatened to firmly deal with the orgy of agitations in the state.
In his address at a crowded function in the outskirt of Guwahati city on Saturday without specifying any agitation, he said that the agitation will only create more martyrs and nothing else.
He said that Congress has patronized a number of regional parties to divide the BJP votes in 2021 assembly polls. "BJP will get absolute majority in the upcoming assembly polls. There is no doubt about it, " said the Union home minister.
Shah kept mum on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 which ran into a hail of protest across the state and relented temporarily only during the COVID19 endemic.
He claimed that only BJP government managed to stop rhino poaching and illegal settlement in the Kaziranga National Park. He further assured the people of steps to solve the perennial flood problem in the state if BJP retains the power.
Shah reached the city on Friday night and held a series of meetings with party leaders. He further discussed strategies for 2021assembly polls at a meeting of BJP-AGP-UPPL-GSP leaders.
Properties worth lakhs of rupees have been ravaged when a huge storm unleashed a reign of terror in upper Assam district disrupting surface communication in many places on Saturday. The United Liberation Front of Asom has strongly opposed the imposition of Sanskrit in the schools and demanded Assamese as compulsory subject in all schools. In a statement received on Saturday, the outfit’s central publicity secretary Aronodoi Asom thrashed education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the decision saying that the imposition of Sanskrit would kill the existing spirit of the mother language.
