Noted educationist and exponent of Sattriya culture Dr Jagannath Mahanta passed away after prolonged illness on Sunday.
The end came at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Science, Vasant Kunj, in New Delhi at 4:40 in the afternoon where he was admitted a couple of weeks.
A pall of gloom has descended in the entire Jhanji area as soon as the sad news spread like wildfires in the afternoon.
Dr Mahanta, who taught Assamese in Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College in Jamuguri was known for his research works on Sattriyta culture.
