Fear of horse trading looms large

The ongoing crisis in the Congress Legislature Party is likely to result in the recurrence of horse trading. This was what BJP MLA Manoranjan Das said on Wednesday.

In an exclusive interview with Assam Times, Das said that both Gogoi and Dr Sarma are expert in horse trading and that they might resort to this clandestine practice only to prove their majority.

Das ridiculed Dr Sarma for moving Governor JB Patnaik for tendering his resignation instead of chief minister which is constitutional.

“What forced him to put in his papers before the Governor when the Chief Minister was available? Is it the formality observed by a senior cabinet minister” said the BJP MLA.

Das said that the days of Congress are over. According to him, the people are ready to dislodge Congress whenever the assembly polls take place.

In his scathing attack on Dr Sarma, the BJP legislator told Assam Times that the senior cabinet had some sharp remark against the opposition party MLAs.

“Dr Sarma and Rockybul Hussain laughed at our strength on the floor because we are five in number. But we the five members have ensured the victory of 7 MPs in the recent Lok Sabha polls. Why 71 MLAs could help only three Congress candidates win the polls?,” said Das.

He further tore apart Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for utter mis governance and lack of ability to rein in his cabinet colleagues where a section of MLAs and minister have been lobbying against him in Delhi and Dispur.
