In a bid to provide more information on various career opportunities, Career Counselling Cell of Sibsagar College had organised two days programme at its campus on 15th and 16th September. This was a general career counselling session which included most of the career topic including merging careers and talk on motivation and preparation for various jobs. Apart from career talk this programme was dealt on employability skills and other skills which are needed for any aspirants to get a job or become self employed or entrepreneurs. Hira Deka Bora, Principal of the college inaugurated the programme on 15th September which was attended by more than 200 students. Ram Kumar S, IAS, Asst Commissioner, Sivasagar District appealed to student to be prepared for the future. He asked the student to think on various jobs apart from PSUs as there are lots of opportunities available at present. Ranjan K Baruah of North East Youth Foundation was the resource person and facilitated the two day’s programme. Apart from providing information he had appealed the students to plan for their future. Naba Jyoti Sarma , Coordinator of the career counselling cell moderated the sessions and thanked all student for their participation . It is to be mentioned that District Administration has started K K Handique Career Counselling Programme in Sivasagar District and there was training for the teachers and as a follow up action by participants Sibsagar College is the first one to conduct the programme for their students.
The Centre is very much worried over the delay in the rail project in Meghalaya in the face of stiff opposition from a number of organization. Union minister Sadananda Gowda who was on a visit to Shillong said that the Union government, if need be, is ready to talk to the organizations who are dead opposed to the project. The Nagaon police have arrested yet another person in connection with Wednesday incident where traders assaulted a group of former ULFA rebel as they were raising fund to feed the flood hit. Popularly known as Mithu, he was on the run as police arrested him on Thursday afternoon. The trader hired him along with three others whom police arrested hours after the incident. The Nagaon police have arrested four traders charging them with assaulting the former rebels who were believed to have been raising fund to feed the flood hit people. According to information, the police have arrested the owner of the shop Raju Das along with his associates Manu Das, N Das, Utpal Das who assaulted the former rebels. A group of traders in Nagaon assaulted a few surrendered ULFA rebels alleging extortion in the name of fund meant for the flood hit people triggering statewide reaction on Wednesday. One month has passed since the management has locked out the Borgaon Tea Estate in Biswanath district allowing 70 workers and their family members to languish in dying agony. Despite repeated appeal, the management is allegedly not in a mood to withdraw the lock out. Even the intervention of the administration has failed to end the logjam.
