Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has sought Rs 1,000 crore from the Centre to tide over the grim flood situation where at least 40 people lost their lives during the last 5 days. In a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, Gogoi said that the huge extent of damage of the flood fury has forced him to pin hopes on this huge amount. The flood waters start receding trend in the worst hit areas of Goalpara and Kamrup Districts. The waterlevels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries across the state are also receding marginally.
