A US team is on a visit to Assam to find out the mortal remains of their four soldiers who died in air crash during the World War II. Led by David Gooch, the team under the banner of Joint Prisoners of War/Missing in Action Accounting Command is visiting Sivasagar district.

The focus of attention is a tiny village in Charaideo where the US team along with the officials of archeological survey of India is searching the remains of the US soldiers. The team starts search operation from Wednesday till November 5. The mortal remains, if found, would be handed over to the family members.

The crash took place on June 26 in 1944 when the US war plane crashed with eleven soldiers in Kothiakhunda village. Bodies of seven soldiers were recovered. Four others were left out because of an unavoidable circumstances.

The US Government is currently working with Rimo Expeditions to recover the mortal remains of four crewmen still missing from the crash of the US Army Air Force B-29 bomber "Eileen", which crashed in Assam's Sivasagar district on 26 June 1944. The missing airmen are 2nd Lt. Walter B. Miklosh of Illinois, Flight Officer Chester L. Rinke of Michigan, S/Sgt. Donal C. Aiken of Washington state, and T/Sgt. John M. Larkins of Tennessee (sources: C. M. Quinn, The Aluminum Trail (1989), National World War II Memorial). We pray that their remains will be recovered and returned to their families. Congress, LF clear poll alliance

Guwahati: After a brainstorming session in Guwahati on Thursday Congress, CPI, CPM have agreed to fight unitedly to keep BJP at bay in the 2021 assembly polls. Congress opposes Madrassa closure move

Guwahati: The BJP-led government's move to close down around 1200 Madrassas hits a major hurdle with Congress vehemently opposing it. State Congress president Ripun Bora said that the party/s position was very clear and that they will keep opposing the move. Bora further called the decision unconstitutional and that the government cant take such a decision in a secular country. Guwahati: Ending a high voltage drama, Kumar Sanjit Krishna has surrendered before the authorities 24 hours after the senior police officer went missing to avert arrest in connection with the recent police recruitment scam. Sanjit Krishna, the younger brother of Chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna reached DGP office at 11.30 in the morning and surrendered. Guwahati: In a bizarre incident that rattles the state's police force a senior police officer is on the run. He is none other than Kumar Sanjit Krishna who faced interrogation in connection with the recent nefarious police recruitment scam. A team of CID probing the scam raided the younger brother of Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna on in Guwahati on Wednesday and recovered some incriminating documents. International Disaster risk reduction day observed

A meeting was organized in Gogamukh Gaon Panchayat office to observe the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction on Tuesday, This programme was organised by LGSSS in collaboration with Parivartan, IAG Dhemaji, and Gogamukh Gaon Panchayat. Guwahati: Police team probing the sub inspector recruitment scam arrested one of the main accused PK Dutta on Tuesday.  The retired DIG was arrested from along Indo-Nepal border early in the morning. Raijor Dal on the doorstep
