A US team is on a visit to Assam to find out the mortal remains of their four soldiers who died in air crash during the World War II. Led by David Gooch, the team under the banner of Joint Prisoners of War/Missing in Action Accounting Command is visiting Sivasagar district.

The focus of attention is a tiny village in Charaideo where the US team along with the officials of archeological survey of India is searching the remains of the US soldiers. The team starts search operation from Wednesday till November 5. The mortal remains, if found, would be handed over to the family members.

The crash took place on June 26 in 1944 when the US war plane crashed with eleven soldiers in Kothiakhunda village. Bodies of seven soldiers were recovered. Four others were left out because of an unavoidable circumstances.

The US Government is currently working with Rimo Expeditions to recover the mortal remains of four crewmen still missing from the crash of the US Army Air Force B-29 bomber "Eileen", which crashed in Assam's Sivasagar district on 26 June 1944. The missing airmen are 2nd Lt. Walter B. Miklosh of Illinois, Flight Officer Chester L. Rinke of Michigan, S/Sgt. Donal C. Aiken of Washington state, and T/Sgt. John M. Larkins of Tennessee (sources: C. M. Quinn, The Aluminum Trail (1989), National World War II Memorial). We pray that their remains will be recovered and returned to their families. Main accused in police recruitment scam arrested

Guwahati: Police team probing the sub inspector recruitment scam arrested one of the main accused PK Dutta on Tuesday.  The retired DIG was arrested from along Indo-Nepal border early in the morning. Congress-AIUDF deal finalized

Raijor Dal on the doorstep

BJP suspends Dibon Deka

Guwahati : In a high voltage drama Dibon Deka surrendered before police a week after he was let off in connection with the recent police recruitment scam.  According to information, the BJP leader surrendered before Pattacharkuchi police station to be immediately whisked away by a team of Guwahati police led by additional DGP GP Singh. 

BJP leader likely to surrender

Guwahati: Dibon Deka,  a BJP leader from Nalbari who is said to be one of the main accused in the police recruitment scam is likely to surrender before police.  According to sources,  Deka, who is on the run after he was let off by CID is learnt to have been talking to a few lawyers seeking legal help.   In his social media status Deka claimed the involvement of a circle of top police officers and feared threat on his life.   

Congress demands CM’s resignation

Guwahati: State Congress staged dharna in Dispur on Wednesday demanding Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s resignation alleging his involvement in the recent test for recruitment of police sub inspector. State party president Ripun Bora alleged involvement of Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty Ranjit Majumdar in the entire scam. Bora further dared the government to institute a judicial probe into it. On the other hand, AIUDF also demanded CBI probe into the entire scam where question papers meant for police sub inspector recruitment test went viral on social media on September 20.
