BTC election: counting going on

Counting to the 40 member the BTC council election going on starting from 8 am this morning amidth tight security in the four districts.

In Kokrajhar,the counting halls were arranged in  three sub-divisions at Kokrajhar,Gossaigaon and Parbatjhora in a vigil security.

Expected that final declaration of the results to the council would be announced by 6 pm.

The security forces on Sunday claimed to have recovered 8 bikes used by NDFB-S rebels in the Korkajhar carnage on Tuesday.  The bikes and a vehicle were recovered from Kousi Bazar in Karigaon area in the morning. According to police, these include 7 Pulsar and one CVR bike along with an Indica car which were recovered during the ongoing joint search operation in the dense jungle area of Ripu reserve forest. 
Bloodbath is nothing to do with the age old bonhomie between Bodos and the Adivasis. They are still united to thwart any attempt break the bond in the time of violence where both the Adivasi and Bodos are bearing the brunt. A group of ministers visited the relief camps in Kokrajhar district during their stock taking visit on Sunday. Comprising Nilmoni Sen Deka, Prithivi Majhi, Nazrul Islam, the group visited Gossaigaon Boys Higher Secondary & Gossaigaon JB School, Sapkata, Raikhunbari, Maktaigaon camps and took stock of the relief measures for the refugees.Dr Nazrul Islam said that doctors have been working round the clock in the relief camps. Security forces are going all out against NDFB-S n Kokrajahr and Chirang districts five days after the militant outfit killed at least 70 people in Kokrajahr and Sonitpur districts.Police officials told Assam Times that 36 additional forces have arrived in the state. Fifteen companies have been deployed in Kokrajhar,9 in Chirang and 6 companies each in Baksa and Udalguri districts.All the extra companies have been deployed in the operation against NDFB(S) which is being intensified in Ripu Reserve forest, Chirang Reserve and Kachugaon Reserve forest.  
The NDFB-S carnage brews blamegame between BPF and BPPF. BPPF president Rabiram Narzary lambasted Hagrama Mohilary on Saturday a day after the BPF boss accused ABSU and BPPF of instigating the killers in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts.Narzary told reporters in Kokrajhar that Mohilary has lost his mass base which was why, he starts making immature statement. The Kokrajhar district administration steps up measures to ensure safety and security to the people after the carnage of Adivasi peoples by NDFB (Songbijit). There is no report of any fresh incident during the last 12 hours. Lower Assam Commissioner Shantanu Thakur visited Kokrajhar on Friday and met senior police and civil officials to review the situation. He said that 50 companies of security forces were deployed in the districts and that of them 18 companies have already reached Kokrajhar. According to him, measures are on to restore peace and normalcy in Udalguri, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts.  
Caught in a gory cycle of violence, around 10,570 panic stricken people in Kokrajhar district have been taking shelter in 24 relief camps.   Gossaigaon sub division has alone 15 camps teeming with Bodos and Adivasi people while Kokrajhar has 9 other relief camps for the refugees. Meanwhile, altogether 15 additional companies of security forces have reached the trouble torn district where 33 people have lost their lives in the on going cycle of violence.  
Hundreds of people both from Adivasi and Bodo community have been taking shelter at SSB camps at Saralapara and Ultapani a day after NDFB-S militants unleashed violence in the area killing 25 people on Tuesday evening. Talking to reporters, Kokrajhar police said that 5 bodies were recovered from Pakhriguri in Serfanguri. Twelve in Ultapani along with eight others from Lungsung area bordering Bhutan. At least 10 injured people have been battling for life in the hospitals in Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon. The All Assam Adivasi Students Union on Wednesday blocked the railway in Gossaigaon in protest against the NDFB-S carnage in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur on Tuesday.Hundreds of Adivasi people squatted on the railway tracks and prevented the movement of several trains through Gossaigaon. The blockade ended after nearly four hours disrupting the train service.  Similarly, the All Bodo Students Union also took out protest rally in Kokrajhar against the massacre and demanded safety and security of the people.
