Don Bosco University holds first two doctoral defences

The Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) arrived at a major landmark when two research scholars of its first batch of 20 doctoral students registered in 2012 appeared for the first ever Viva Voce examination, 23 & 24 April. While Mr Niranjan Agarwalla of the ADBU School of Management defended his thesis on “Customer Satisfaction in the Telecom Sector in India - A Study on Assam and North East Circle,” on Thursday 23 April, Divine Word Society Father Jose K Jacob of the School of Northeast India Studies defended “An Anthropological Study of Religion Among the Rangdani Rabha of Assam,” on Friday 24 April.

Professor P.K. Haldar of the Dept of Commerce, Tripura University and Prof J.P. Sharma, Head of dept of Economics, Adm & Finan Management, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur were the examiners. Prof P.K. Haldar chaired the panel of six examiners at the Viva Voce examination of Mr Agarwalla.

The examiners for second doctoral defence included HoD Department of Sociology, Tezpur University Dr Kedilezo Kokhi as the examiner and professor of anthropology Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan  Prof Onkar Prasad. The supervisor was Dr Gautam Kumar Bera of Anthropological Survey of India, North Eastern Regional Centre, Shillong.

Seven PHD candidates are expected to be awarded doctoral degrees in the convocation scheduled for September 2015.

Some 100 scholars including fifth batch of PHD students doing week-long course work, university officials and faculty members attended both events  held at university’s Azara campus.

Started in August 2008, Assam Don Bosco University is the first Salesian university in the English speaking world. There are 15 other Don Bosco Universities world over.

Media students take to radio for community care

A group of Mass Communication students doing courses in radio production and development communication found that community radio has power to create awareness in the community for change. Motivated by their teachers, they explored the needs of neighbourhood communities and came up with radio magazine shows to highlight some of the social issues that vexed the villagers. ADBU VC addresses Vatican Education Congress

A Vice-Chancellor from northeast India university was the only Indian to present a paper at the Vatican organized World Congress on Education today, 19th November. Dr Stephen Mavely the VC of Assam Don Bosco University presented the paper on “Educating Today and Tomorrow: Renewing A Passion” at the evening session held for Universities at Centro Mariapoli, Castelgandolfo outside Rome. ADBU students offer services to village students

A university community in northeast India has become a trend setter in offering development communication services when its students of the Schools of Technology and Social Sciences decided to reach out to its neighbourhod communities. Discussion on media at ADBU

A group of university students discussed Media, Culture and Society in the context of current national media scenario at Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) Azara campus. The group presented 23 papers on the topic ‘Media, Culture and Society’ at a pre-conference colloquium scheduled for 2-3 November on “Quality Configuration for Media Education in India.” The one-day colloquium had masters level students from Universities of Mizoram, Madras, Itanagar, Tezpur and Guwahati participating at 31st October event. Assam students shining in Bangkok

Two students from Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) have brought no less pride for the state when they presented their research proposals at Bangkok University Center of Research in Optoelectronics, Communications and Control Systems (BU-CROCCS) in Thailand recently.
