Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has reposed his confidence on Tarun Gogoi as Chief Minister. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Monday, Dr Sarma who led the dissident group said that he had no difference with Gogoi and that he was prepared to do whatever the chief minister wants to do.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi pulls up his sleeves to reshuffle his council of ministers in a day or two. Gogoi, who is camping in New Delhi is believed to have got the seal of approval from Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday.
The dissidance drama seems to have ended with its prominent leaders offering to quit. Dr Himanta Biswar Sarma who has been leading the camp along with Gautom Roy, Siddique and Bidya Sing Ingleng met chief minister Tarun Gogoi where they offered to quit. Dr Sarma said that they were prepared to put in papers as soon as Gogoi wants. Political observers called it a face saving tactic and that they are really prepared to support Gogoi. In a most bizarre incident that tocuhes off a seismic wave of anger, a woman died after she was repeated raped and tortured for 36 hours in Dhubri district. The incident took place at Koimari in Golokganj when the mother of three children was on the way to her husband’s house where three miscreants kidnapped on June 9 and kept for 36 hours. The Assam government is yet to decide on the permanent memorial in the name of Khagen Mahanta.
Talking to reporters in the sidelines of the funeral function on Friday evening, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that the decision would be taken due course of time.
“The decision would be taken after proper consultation with all sections of the people. I do hope that the people will help us,” said the chief minister.
Noted singer Angarag Mahanta said on Friday that he has nobody to giude him fron now and onwards.
