In a most bizarre incident that tocuhes off a seismic wave of anger, a woman died after she was repeated raped and tortured for 36 hours in Dhubri district. The incident took place at Koimari in Golokganj when the mother of three children was on the way to her husband’s house where three miscreants kidnapped on June 9 and kept for 36 hours. They repeatedly raped her and assaulted her for 36 hours before dumping at the roadside. She was rushed to the hospital. But she succumbed to her injuruies on Friday. The Assam government is yet to decide on the permanent memorial in the name of Khagen Mahanta.
Talking to reporters in the sidelines of the funeral function on Friday evening, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that the decision would be taken due course of time.
“The decision would be taken after proper consultation with all sections of the people. I do hope that the people will help us,” said the chief minister.
Noted singer Angarag Mahanta said on Friday that he has nobody to giude him fron now and onwards.
A day after losing his father and folk song exponent Khagen Mahanta said,” I am shocked. I have not seen him at the end.”

Karbi Anglong police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a combing operation against UPLA inside a dense jungle on Wednesday.

Agriculture minister Nilomoni Sen Deka met Sarat Borotoky Wednesday on fuelling the specualtion of Chief minister’s new measures to contain the dissident ministers and MLAs.
Deka, the trusted minister of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi arrived in Sarat Borkotoky’s official residence at 11 in the morning.
The duo held a close door meeting for nearly one hour in presence of Gautom Roy who is also known to be a close associate of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Health and education minister Dr Himanta Biswa has been camping in New Delhi to call on Congress president Sonia Gandhi to formally raise the demand for change in CLP leadership.
