Terror tentacle spreading in the north eastern region when suspected NSCN(K) backed by other insurgent outfits of the region unleashed a reign of terror by tagetting security forces in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday.
A huge group of around 50 gunmen opened fire at an Assam Rifles camp in Lazu area in Tirap district early in the morning forcing the army personnel to retaliate. The insurgents fled under cover of darkness. There is no report of any casualty.
Later police recovered over 70 empty cartridges of AK-47 rifle along with several bombs.
The gun firing took place four days after 18 army personnel were killed at an ambush by NSCN-K in in Manipur's Chandel district.
Girijananda Chowdhury Group of Institutes, Guwahati celebrated their 7th Graduation Ceremony on 7th September, 2016, on the occasion of the 10th Foundation Day of the institutes. The Graduation Ceremony is celebrated every year to acknowledge the success of their recent graduates, this year marking the passing out of the7th batch of B.E. and MBA, 6th batch of B. Pharm., 5th batch of MCA and 4th batch of M. Pharm and 3rd batch of M.Tech.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Pradyut Kumar Goswami, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Assam Science and Technology University, as the Chief Guest and Mr. Alok Verma, Business Head, Vodafone Assam and North East, as the Guest of Honour. The event started off with lighting of the inaugural lamp by the members of the institute along with the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. The dignitaries then shared their enlightening views with the new batch of graduates, motivating and inspiring them to face the challenges of everyday life.
Certificates were awarded to all the successful graduates. The toppers of all departments were also awarded with cash prizes.
On the day the institute also gave away prizes to the winners of the State Level Essay Competition for school students organized by GIMT, Guwahati in March, 2016. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the faculty of the institute.
One Surajit Bathari aged 27 died on the spot in a bike accident at Block Bazar, near Diyungmukh in Dima Hasao at about 4 pm on Saturday while Langkhao Phonglo who was seriously injured in the accident succumbed to his injuries on the way to Lanka.
The Chirang Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Rupak Kumar Mazumdar on Thursday chaired a meeting cum training programme with all team members, designated to oversee various aspects of election expenditures during election process in the district. Along with assigned officials for video surveillance, video viewing, accounting, complaint monitoring, media certification and the Nodal Officer of Election Expenditure Monitoring cell ADC Dasarath Das, EO Rajiv Kumar Das, ACs Dhrubajyati Das, Jitu Kumar Barman and Dipak Khanikar were present in the meeting.
Mazumdar, addressing the officials strictly instructed all to implement the expenditure monitoring mechanism putting all efforts as per the rules and provisions on expenditure related issues of the ECI. The training was imparted by ADC Dasarath Das. He explained the duties and responsibly of the teams along with monitoring procedure and submitting reports in time.
He also informed about the preparedness of election including installation of helpline Telephone No. 03664242316 and provision of E- SUBIDHA for securing all kinds of permission and E- SAMADHAN for placing grievances. He also said that steps have been taken for video coverage in polling stations and webcasting in some locations as per the instruction of the ECI.
