ABSU convention at Dimakuchi

A special cnvention of the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) on June 11 and followed by the Bodoland Movement Martyrs’ Day commemorating the First Martyr Sujit Narzary on the 12 June in the year 1987 was concluded at Dimakuchi in Udalguri on Friday.

In convention, delegates from all the district committees of the union participated to discuss the pros and cons of the Bodoland issue, Socio- Economic and political dimensions of change for building the good and prosperous Bodo Society. The Educational issue has also gained attention in the discussions,which was chaired by the speaker of the union Jayanta Basumatary.

The Bodoland Movement Martys’Day got started with the Union’s Flag hoisting by Pramod Boro,president of the ABSU and including all the district committees joined the hoisting half flag condoling the martyrs of Bodoland Movement. The floral tribute at the epic of first Martyr Sujit Narzary was started by Khungkra Swargiary,adviser ABSU and floral tribute to the martyrs at the memorial tomb was started by Romeo P Narzary,Vice President ABSU and followed by all the district committees and delegates.

For the ongoing Bodoland movement the union has resolved to continue the awareness campaign on the movement among the masses by circulating the leaf let, awareness meeting and intellectual meet at large scale. The union resolved demanding the publication and distribution of NRC forms, in Bodo language and resolved to launch democratic mass movement if government ignored it.

The Union strongly demanded that the state government must immediately declare 31st March, as Student Day the Birth Day of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, which has been observed by the All Bodo Students Union since 2006.

The union also resolved to work for the protection and conservation of greater Manas landscape from River Sankosh to Bhairabkunda to reserve for all time World Heritage Site. Moreover, inclusion of Orang National Park in BTAD and removal of the name of Rajiv Gandhi from the national park which dilute the originality and historic entity.

The Union urge the government of India to start the Peace dialogue with all the existing armed revolutionary groups those who are under Ceasefire process and to resolve all the problems for Peace Prosperity in the entire region.

The Union Strongly Condemn the gun shot to Kamalsing Basumatary, youth from Haltugaon of Kokrajhar district on evening of 11th June 2015 and injuring him very badly and appeal the administration to arrest the culprits book them under the law. The illegal arms culture has been a dying silent death but now the peace at the region has been again disrupted and spate of illegal arms has started, the state government must take bold action to whosoever the miscreant involved in such disruption of peace.

Educational Demands:

  • Union urge upon the state government to resolve the entire problem faced by the Bodo Medium students from ‘Kho’ Shreni to PG before 15 August 2015.
  • Inclusion of Bodo Department in Dibrugarh University, Assam University, Silchar, Tezpur University etc.
  • NET Centers at All District Head Quarters of BTAD and Assam
  • Up gradation of Central Institute of Technology up to Central University
  • Provincialization of remaining Bodo medium venture Institutions
  • Inclusion of Bodo Major in the Colleges of Assam
  • Inclusion of MIL in Colleges and other institution in Assam
  • Introduction of Bodo medium in higher secondary courses in Assam
  • More number of Bodo Medium Teachers’ Training Institute in Assam like that of DIET recognized by NCTE
  • To open Law Colleges, B.ed Colleges at Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri
  • To disburse the ST/SC Government of India Scholarship at all level regularly by the State government without any discrimination.

Union urge the State Government to resolve all the problems regarding Faculty & non- teaching staff to Sanction for the Bodoland University immediately for advancement of higher education in the Bodoland region. The Union will resort to democratic movement if the problems are not resolved.

The Union condemns the use of the unconstitutional statements by the head of the BTC Government; the Democratic Constitutional government is for all sections of society and community. The Council government must be for the good governance, safety, security, peace and equal development for all citizens living in the BTAD area. Any government cannot politically, socially and economically discriminate the citizens, which will be at the highest level liable to be condemned.

The Union urge all the Bodo people of the state to traditionally represent in the NRC photographs by taking Aronnai and wearing dhokona compulsorily.

A memorial lecture on Bhaskar Pradip Mahanta was organized by Sanscritic Mahasabha, Assam Kokrajhar district samiti on Sunday in Kokrajhar at Basic Training Centre.
