It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Barpeta: where turnout sets record

Polling has ended with a brisk note in Barpeta as soon as the clock struck at 5 in the evening. The turn out is set to cross 85 per cent to be confirmed by the country’s poll panel.Heavy turn out of voters in this crucial constituency have sealed the fate of candidates after the poll was conducted in 1906 booths. Voters in large numbers were pouring on from early in the morning when polling formally started at 7 in the morning at 1940 booths in the entire constituency have  15,48, 849 electorates who have sealed  the fate of 15 candidates in the EVMs.Guarded by security forces, voters waited in huge queues in front of the booths to exercise their franchise. Polling is over in six Lok Sabha constituencies. The turn out is believed to have crossed 85 per cent in Nagaon, Barpeta, Guwahati, Mangaldoi, Dhubri and Kokrajhar.Now the fate of 74 candidates is sealed in the electronic voting machines which would be taken for counting on May 16. Utter lawlessnees seems have gripped Diphu these days. Nobody knows what awaits whom. Police constable shot dead in booth

A police constable was killed and two other policemen deployed in poll duty sustained injury when they clashed with voters over technical glitches in EVM at a booth in Gossaigaon on Thursday.The incident took place when a section of voters in Harhbhanga booth tried to register protest against technical glitches in the electronic voting machines.The clash erupted when constable Pinku Ranghang tried to bring the situation under control.Amid the clash, Ranghang died on the spot while two others were rushed to the hospital.      

PM sees Modi magic in media

Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Thursday straightly denied any wave in the name of Narendra Modi.In his brief interaction with reporters after casting his vote at Dispur Govt HS School, Dr Singh said the Modi magic is the creation of media only.Dr Singh further said that he was confident that his party will get majority in the Lok Sabha polls.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is confident that his party will get majority in the Lok Sabha polls.Talking to reporters after casting his vote in Dispur on Thursday, Dr Singh who represents Assam in parliament said that the ruling has not lost its ground.He casted his vote along with his wife at 12-30 noon at the Dispur Govt HS School and left back to New Delhi after informal and courtesy meet with chief minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita.This is his last visit to his second home state as prime minister.

In his last visit as prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh has exercised his franchise in Dispur in the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls on Thursday.Dr Singh, who represents the state in the Rajya Sabha casted his vote at 12-30 at the Dispur Govt HS School.During his one and a half hour long visit to his second home state, he and his wife Gurusharan Kaur landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 11-45 in the morning.Then he left for Khanapara by a helicopter to be received by chief minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita.After talking to media just for two minutes, he left fir New Delhi.    

40 per cent turn out in Guwahati

Braving a burning sun shine, 40 per cent of voters so far exercised their franchise in Guwahati in the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls on Thursday.The voters in large numbers have been waiting in long queues in front of the polling booths in the city to exercise their franchise. Jalukbari assembly constituency is expected to record huge 85 per cent turn out. Till 9 in the morning the turn out was 22 per cent. Bijoya Chakrabarty casts vote

Guwahati BJP candidate Bijoya Chakrabarty casted her vote in the morning in the final phase of polling in the state.After exercising her franchise in Srinagar arer in the city, she told reporters that nobody can stop her from retaining the seat. She said that Congress candidate who is like her adopted grandson is her nearest rival this time and that AGP is not in the contest.
