Special cell in NE

Union home minister Rajnath Singh announced a special investigation cell to firmly deal with the rising militant activities in the north eastern region.

In his speech at the NE CMs’ Conference in Guwahati on Saturday, he said that there has been steep rise in the incidents of extortions and abductions in Meghalaya. 

“These incidents should be firmly dealt with and these elements should be flushed out without any delay,” said Singh.

Sensational murder in Karbi Anglong

Three members of a family, including a woman, were hacked to death and two others seriously injured at a family in Karbi Anglong district on Saturday.


According to police, the three were hacked to death by sharp weapons following an altercation in their house at Josephbasti village in the wee hours.


Those hacked were a couple and their teenaged son, while the injured were their two minor children. Search on for the absconding assailants.


Bizarre killing rocks Koliabor

In a bizarre incident on the new year’s day, a woman and her two children were hacked to death allegedly by her teenaged stepson on Tuesday in Koliabar of Nagaon district. Identified as Mohamad Ali hacked to death his step mother a sharp weapon after an argument at Kunduli village. He then attacked her minor daughter and son killing them on the spot. According to the neighbour, Mohamad and his step mother would often fight after his father married her and shifted to another house following the death of his mother. The deceased have been identified as Phulbano Khatun, Nazia Khatun and Rabiul Hussain. Ali was absconding.

Public curfew hits normal life

A 36 hour long public curfew hits normal life for the second day on Tuesday as Joint Action Committee has called a 'janata curfew' from 7 am till 7 pm on Tuesday opposing the hustings. 
People remained indoors, shops and markets kept their shutters down, offices, educational institutions and banks were closed, while vehicles went off the roads.
