Date with SN Subba Rao

Gandhian Salem Nanjundaiah Subba Rao will interact with the media persons at Guwahati Press Club today afternoon at 5 pm. A fellow of Gandhi Peace Foundation and founder of National Youth Project, Dr Rao is known for his mission to uplift the spirit of youth in the world for building a new society based on love, peace, harmony and social justice. Affectionately called by everyone as ‘Bhai Ji’, Dr Rao is remembered for his enormous role in surrendering many dacoits in the Eighties.

Born in Bangalore in 1929, Dr Rao was inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi since his childhood days. Eventually he became a Khadi-wearer. The freedom fighter Dr Rao was honoured with various awards including D.Lit. (by Kashi Vidhya Peeth), Bhartiya Ekta Puruskar, Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award, Rashtirya Sampradayik Sadbhavna Puruskar, Jamanalal Bajaj Puraskar, Mahatma Gandhi Purskar, Rashtriya Sadbhawna Ekta Prusaskar etc.

Kokrajhar: Normal train services remained heavily disrupted in BTAD areas on Friday when AKRSU blocked the rail tracks in Kokrajhar reiterating demands for ST status and separate Kamatapur statehood. Kokrajhar: Normal government transport services remained paralyzed in BTAD areas on Thursday when the  employees of the Bodoland Transport Services started an indefinite strike raising a slew of demands. With banners and play cards, hundreds of employees from Bodoland transport department staged sit in demanding steps to regularise their jobs, hike in salaries. The employees slammed the transport department for not taking  any measures to meet their long standing demands of the emoloyees. They said the strike will continue until and unless the demands are accepted for needful steps.
GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Thursday has asked all district authorities to set up fast tract court to deal with the incidents of sexual misconduct against women. The court issued orders to the district session courts a day after chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal in a letter to the chief Justice urged him to fast track these cases to expedite the Justice delivery system. Sonowal, who held video conference with DCs and SPs to speed up the charge sheet filing process in the courts to firmly deal with the guilty.
NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency probing the terror funding cases in Nagaland is preparing to quiz former chief minister TR Zeliang on Saturday. According to sources, NIA has issued a summon to the Nagaland Opposition leader and his secretary to reach its headquarters based in New Delhi at 10 in the morning. Zeliang claimed to have received a summon in the name of NIA a couple of weeks back and sought time to appear before it in view of the assembly session which concluded on Monday.

NEW DELHI: Assam Congress MPs staged protest in New Delhi on Tuesday alleging the BJP-led government’s move to cancel the recognition of Assam Women University in Jorhat.
