IITian found dead

A B Tech student is believed to have committed suicide in the morning leaving the Guwahati IIT in utter shocked on Friday.
Identified as Ujjal Salil, the body of student from Bihar was found at the campus early in the morning. The inmate of the Brahmaputra Hostel was suspected to have jumped to the ground.

Police recovered the body and investigation is going on. This is the third such tragic incident at the country’s premier seat of science and technology in Guwahati during the last 12 months.

Last year in the same month i.e. on 14/09/2014 our son Tushar Yadav was also found dead behind his room in Kameng Hostel, before we reached there from Delhi IIT Guwahati declared it as suicide. Same thing happened in today"s case.  After our strong oppose case of conspiracy and murder was registered since then Police and IIT Guwahatidid nothing at yet, we at our level providing evidences, activities of suspects but all in vain. You the media also continuously describing as suicide why? On that day you the media failed to did your duty to find out facts then wrote such thing. If you did that in so hurry then why not you published the story of conspiracy and murder. This IIT has continue taking life of young engineers no media no ngo no political system no UGC no NHRC no Court take notice of it. We the grieved parents of Tushar can understand the loss that the family of Ujjal Shailabh have to bear through whole life, what else we can say   Narender Singh ( Gurgaon)

Day light dacoity in Guwahati

Guwahati is teeming with security forces. But the city is yet to get out of the militants, thieves and dacoits.Two armed youths were caught by local residents in the city after they looted properties worth several lakhs from a house in the broad day light on Wednesday.The incident took place at Srinagar area at 12 noon when the armed youths looted the money and gold ornaments at gunpoint.But the local residents who came out in large number overpowered the duo. After being caught, the duo were handed over to the police.        

Big win for Cong in Assam: Joshi

AICC general secretary Dr CP Joshi on Wednesday said that all the Lok Sabha seats in Assam would go in favour of Congress.Talking to reporters at the Rajiv Bhawan premises in Guwahati, the AICC in charge attached to Assam said that the ruling party would be able to put up a commendable show in the upcoming general election.Dr Joshi’s hoped the big win hours after Union minister Oscar Fernandes said that Congress in Assam would be able to do very well in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Talking to reporters at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Wednesday morning, Fernandes said that the party is expected to win all the seats in the polls. 

Joshi dismisses dissidence

AICC general has totally dismissed any dissidence within the party legislative body saying that he has not heard of it.Talking to reporters in the sidelines of the party executive body meeting at the Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday, he said that nobody has approached him with any note of dissidence.     

Let Modi come: Gogoi

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday dared Narendra Modi to woo the voters in the run up to the upcoming Lok Sabbha polls.Talking to reporters in the sidelines of the party executive body meeting at the Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday, Gogoi said that Rahul Gandhi is not required to take on the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. Gogoi said that he can alone take on the Gujarat Chief Minister. “Let Narendra Modi come to hold rally in Guwahati. I will take on him alone,” Gogoi said.  The chief minister further exuded confidence that Congress will win 12 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. 

Deer recovered in Guwahati

Rapid deforestation seems to have put the wild animals in danger. Local residents in Guwahati caught a deer from the human habitaton Wednesday. The deer was spotted in Noonmati area by a section of local residents after it sneaked into the human habitat in the morning. They caught the animal and handed over to the local police station before it was sent to the forest department.  

Cong to win 14 seats: Fernandes

Union minister Oscar Fernandes said on Wednesday that Congress in Assam would be able to do very well in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Talking to reporters at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Wednesday morning, Fernandes said that the party is expected to win all the seats in the polls.He further said that Narendra Modi has hardly any impact in Assam and that the BJP’s prime ministerial candidates won’t be able to garner support from the state.

Kokrajhar bandh total

Normal life came to a grinding halt in Kokrajhar following the day long bandh call on Wednesday in protest against the attack on a local trader on Tuesday night.Roads wore deserted look. Schools and colleges, shops and markets, offices and banks remained closed under the impact of the baandh.Suspected KLO militants gunned down a local from a point blank range in Kokrajhar on Tuesday evening on his way back to his home. The businessman was killed on the spot.

APCC holds crucial meet

Assam Congress Committee is holding its executive body meeting in Guwahati on Wednesday to discuss the crucial issues three months ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.Presided over by APCC president Bhuubneswar Kalita, AICC general secretary Dr CP Joshi is attending the meeting along with APCC leader Avinash Pandey and chief minister Tarun Gogoi.Dissidence activities are unlikely to figure in the meeting. On Tuesday evening Dr Joshi, Pandey and top APCC leaders held a crucial meeting at the Chief Minister’s official residence where poll candidates were believed have discussed.

ULFAman killed in encounter

A hardcore ULFAman died in an encounter with security forces in Goalpara district on Wednesday. The encounter took place along the Assam-Meghalaya border in the wee hours.According to information, security forces launched a combing operation acting on a tip off that a group of hardcore ULFAmen was hiding in the area. The man died on the spot. The encounter took place day after police arrested an ULFA-linkman.
