The centre is closely monitoring the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur. Violence will only compound the problem. Need of the hour is exercising restraint. This was more or less of what a home ministry team said in Manipur on Tuesday when they were on a stock taking visit to the restive north eastern state a month after 9 people died in a orgy of violence after the assembly passed three controversial bills.
The central team headed by Ashok Prasad, told the agitating people to exercise restraint when they talked to them after arriving in Churachandpur in the morning. Here is the excerpt of the speech for the agitating people.
"I can feel their pains and I understand their extend of bereavement. Loss of lives would always be a tragedy more so when it involved those who are plucked away in the prime of their lives. As a brother I share your tears and grief and as a friend I stand by you in your prayers for peace to the departed souls.
These are difficult time that we faced today. A difficult situation that can only be move forward with the help and sympathetic participations of all the stake holders. In fact the relative calm that we produced here today is a tribute to your understanding in the face of great tragedy. I appeal to all of you for continuation of this steering and I particularly the role play by the mothers and ladies of this area who have appeared in the forefront in helping to stabilized and pacified an extremely volatile situations.
I am also grateful to the elders and leaders of this area for their guidance and their directions that they have provided and continue to provide to steer us through this stormy period. I pray to them to continue to guide and advise us as we work toward the speedy resolution of the issue and the avoidance of further tragedy.
After this I'll be interacting with the different stake holders assisting and listening to their words of concerns and I will be taking their valuable suggestions. Some of you have already been interacting with the Central government and I am aware of their concerns and of the commitment of the government in Delhi to join prosperity and peace of this region with the rest of the country. It will be my endeavor to understand the nuances and complexity of the situation so that necessary and effective steps can be initiated at appropriate levels to bring back peace and stability to this area."

GUWAHATI: A forest official engaged in the massive eviction drive in the Amchang wildlife sanctuary sustained serious injury when an evicted person attacked him with a sharp weapon on Tuesday. The clash took place in the morning when the huge joint team of forest department and district administration resumed the drive to evict the illegal settlers. NAMRUP: A leopard cub was found dead in Namrup which was believed to have been killed during a fight between two tiger on Monday. Tea garden workers spotted the lifeless cub under the tea bushes in Hapjan Estate in the morning. The body which was rushed for post mortem bore injury marks in neck and head. Later in a statement Namrup deputy ranger Pranab Kalita also doubted a fierce fighting of leopards where the cub died in attack. Leopards often keep coming down from the Joyepore reserve forest to the human habitats and tea gardens in search of food.

GUWAHATI: There seems to be no respite for Nishamoni Deka as the Gauhati High Court on Monday refused to grant anticipatory bail for the ACS officer who is on the run. Hearing the anticipatory bail plea, the high court straightly rejected it and asked the special operation unit probing the APSC scam to submit the case diary by December 15. Earlier, Deka moved a plea before the Special court to grant her anticipatory bail citing her two month old baby. When rejected, she moved the high court which upheld the ruling. NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is hearing a petition alleging a huge scam in the selection of candidates for ACS, APS and allied service candidate by the Assam Public Service Commission in 2013. But, Akhil Gogoi, the petitioner is absent from the proceedings since he has been languishing in the Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Srcurity Act. Noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan us appearing on behalf of the petitioner who moved the plea before the country's top court many days ago. Several people including a journalist sustained injury when dsecurity forces sprang upon a group of people as the tried to disrupt an eviction drive at a reserved forest in the outskirt of Guwahati on Monday.
