Uneasy situation in Dhubri

An uneasy situation prevails in Dhubri and Cachar districts after an irate mob clashed with police near  temple forcing the administration to clamp curfew on Saturday.  

The epicenter is Agomoni area in Dhubri district a day after a group clash near a temple in Kaldoba area.

The situation vitiated in the morning when as a guge group of hit the streets in protest against the clash on Friday. A section of the protestors damaged a few shops in the area beside set a motorcycle on fire. The police sprang upon the mob where many people sustained injury. 

The situation spread to Silchar. But police brought the situation under control. BJP MLA Dilip Paul along with another BJP leader courted arrest for their alleged involvement.

SC junks PIL opposes 'indiscriminate' deportations

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday declined to accept a plea by All BTC Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) raising concerns over the state’s “indiscriminate” move to detain and deport suspected foreigners. A Bench of the top court comprising Justices Sanjay Karol and Satish Chandra Sharma asked ABMSU to move the the Gauhati High Court. In writ petition, the organisation questioned the growing pattern of deportations by the Assam Government through informal “push back” mechanisms, without any judicial oversight or adherence to the safeguards envisaged by the Constitution.
