In a message sent to media on the Protest Day on Saturday, the ULFA-I chairman said that the outfit has been struggling to save the rights of the indigenous people of Assam.
According to the elusive ULFA-I leader, the "immature" studentleaders who spearheaded the Assam Agitation surrendered before New Delhi when they signed an accord to deport Bangladeshi aliens in 1985 with Rajiv Gandhi.
"However, India in contrast is seeking military solution to our legitimate struggle to establish our birthright as enshrined in international statues and our indigenous masses are responding to the call of the hour to own what belong to them," said the ULFA supremo.
He further spoke of the India, Bangladesh land deal with reference to the history of East Pakistan. The outfit also said that the move to give refugee status to the non-Muslim Bangladeshis are strange.
SIVASAGAR: A section of Naga rebels has been moving in Sonari without any hindrance waiting for the much-hyped greater Nagalim just before the Christmas. Security forces apprehended three armed Naga rebels during a combing operation in Sonari on Thursday. Acting on a tip off, army, police and para military forces raided the Seven Star Hotel in the town where the trio were lodging. A team of senior police officers has been interrogating them. Police claimed to have seized a pistol and some incriminating documents from their possession. Sonari, a small town in Sivasagar district bordering Nagaland has many Naga people and the rebels want the areas to be integrated in the greater Nagalim.
GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court is unhappy with the way the Dibrugarh police arrested Akhil Gogoi under the National Security Act three months back.Granting bail to the KMSS leader on Thursday, the bench of Justice Achintya Malla Bujarbaruah said the entire process has some serious lapses which needs to be probed. GUWAHATI: Finally, the Gauhati High Court has granted bail to Akhil Gogoi whom the Dibrugarh police arrested under the National Security Act on September 13. After hearing the bail plea moved on behalf of the KMSS leader, the court on Thursday morning cleared it ruling that the arrest under NSA was faulty. DIBRUGARH: KMSS leaders and workers have started gathering in front of the Dibrugarh Central Jail from early in the morning to catch a glimpse of Akhil Gogoi who is likely to get bail on Thursday. GUWAHATI: A special CBI court in Guwahati on Wednesday remanded Rajesh Dhawan to two days CBI custody who was arrested on Tuesday night. DIBRUGARH: A local court in Dibrugarh disallowed police to arrest Akhil Gogoi in connection with a case pending against the KMSS leader in Dudhnoi. A team of Goalpara police on Wednesday moved the additional chief judicial magistrate in Dibrugarh seeking permission to get Gogoi in their custody citing a case in Dudhnoi police station. But the court rejected the plea a day before the Gauhati High Court's ruling on his bail petition. The high court is clearing its ruling on Gogoi's bail petition on Thursday morning. GUWAHATI: ULFA Commander in Chief Paresh Baruah deeply condoled the sudden death of Mukul Mahanta on Wednesday. Talking to a section of media, the military head of the rebel outfit fighting for an independent Assam said both they met a couple of times a road. Baruah heaped praise on Mahanta and his independent mindset and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul. ULFA in 2005 set up the peoples consultative group to broker peace with the Centre where Mahanta was one of the members. He also participated in the first round of peace talk between PCG and Centre. Mahanta died a silent death at his Guwahati resident on Wednesday at the age of 92.
GUWAHATI:The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday reserved its ruling on Akhil Gogoi's bail petition. The ruling is expected at 10.30 in the morning on Thursday. In yet another development Dudhnoi police on Wednesday moved Dibrugarh Chief Judicial Magistrate seeking the KMSS leader in their custody in connection with a case pending against him. Even if the High Court grants bail for Gogoi who was arrested under NSA, the KMSS adviser is unlikely to come under the open sky on Thursday.
