Ugly face of raggin, student hospitalised

In ragging no one knows what would be the extent of suffering for the ragged ones. It can range from some innocent and harmless leg pulling to harsh physical and mental assault. It is this latter type of ragging which is objectionable, abhorring and a matter of great concern. It takes its worst form when fresher’s are physically hurt to the extend of landing up in hospitals with fatal injuries.

One such incident recently occurred when Achyut Bora, a Higher Secondary First Year student of Dhekial Higher Secondary School in Golaghat was severely hurt by six senior students of H.S. Second Year in the name of ragging. The principal of the school immediately suspended the six students. The father of the victim also filed a F.I.R. in Dhekial Police Outpost. Achyut, who hails from a poor family, sustained severe injuries on his left eye due to which he is not able to see anything. He was suffering from diseases of nose and eyes for quite a few times. After this incident the condition of Achyut’s left eye deteriorated and he was admitted in the surgical ward of Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital, Golaghat. It is to be mention here that Achyut has undergone two surgery regarding his eyes and nose only fifteen days before this incident. Police has taken the matter seriously and registered a case against the accused students who are absconding.

Ragging is an expression of SADISM. Students who indulge in ragging fresh entrants, should be sent to the Mental Hospital.

I think its very sad that people find it funny to torture someone in the name of "ragging". I think schools, colleges and every education institutions should implement strict expel policy for naggers.
