BSS conference concludes

The 55th annual conference of Bodo Sahitya Sabha concludes today at Mugacharan Brahma Fwthar, Bhiranggaon in Chirang district after two days colourful programme.

Dr Kameswar Brahma,president of the sabha strongly criticized the government of Assam for neglecting the Bodo medium education and its failure in the implementation of the Bodo language as an officiate language in the state.

He said in the last 15 years, the Congress government in the state has not done a single welfare work for the growth and development of the Bodo language and education.  He said the Bodo sabha had been demanding the Government of Assam to take proper action for solution of medium crisis, including creation of separate Directorate for Bodo medium, provincialisation of Bodo medium institutions, appointment of teachers and timely distribution of text books etc, but the government is never serious in solving the crisis and the demands.

The apex Bodo literary body has also strongly voiced against the apathetic attitude of education department, government of Assam, for issuing office memorandum in case of written interview for the post of Junior Assistant for High School and Higher Secondary schools by keeping aside question papers in Bodo language.

Kamala Kanta Muchahary,sabha general secretary said that the sabha and its allied organizations strongly oppose the dictatorial attitude by the state government machineries of neglecting the Bodo language, which is also a scheduled language of Indian Constitution and instructed all the district and primary level committee of the sabha to thwart the ‘evil design of Assam government by imposing Assamese or Bengali language on the Bodos, and to take the agitational programme in district level, he said.

The House unanimously resolved that the long pending demands must be solved by the state and Central government within six months of the new govt formation. ‘If the demands are not meet the BSS will be compelled to launch a series of agitational programme with the help of other allied organizations and public, he said.

The delegate sitting also resolved to appeal the state govt to include the Bodo language as one of the subject langauge, in any interview and exams, along with Assamese and Bengali, as Bodo language being a Eight scheduled language.  The House resolved to protest if Bodo language is not included in any interview and exams question papers. : Muchahary said the Sabha has also decided to approach  the Bengal Bengal govt to issue a gazette notification to recognize the Bodo language as a mother tongue for the Mech tribal people of West Bengal and introduced Bodo as a language subject in elementary education. It also called upon the Mech (Bodo) people of West Bengal to  stand unitedly to achieve the goal.

The apex Bodo literary body also opined that local language should be recognized as 1st language, English as second language followed by Hindi and other local regional language (50% each) as third language. ‘For Assamese medium students it should be 50% Hindi and 50% Bodo, and for Bodo medium students 50% Hindi and 50 % Assamese language. In case of Barak valley(50% Hindi, 50% Assamese) and in for Bengali medium students in BTAD, it should be 50% Hindi and 50% Bodo, said Muchahary.

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary inaugurated the open session with Dr Kameswar Brahma, president of the sabha in the chair.

Mohilary,in his speech said that language recognises identity and growth of the community,so every Bodo person should love and affection to the Bodo language and literature.

Former minister and MLA Chandan Brahma,MP Biswajit Daimary,BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary,ex MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma,Sahitya Akademy awardees Janil Kumar Brahma,Brajendra Kumar Brahma,Dr Mangalsingh Hazoary were prominent attendees on the meeting.

Over 1200 delegates from Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Nepal participated at the conference. Representatives from indigenous sahitya sabhas — Karbi, Dimasa Tiwa, Rabha, Mising, Garo and Deori — attend the conference.

Various literary awards, including Rangsar Literature Award, 2015 and Sameswari Brahma Literary Award, 2015 were presented during the conference. The Sabha facilitated various Sahitya Akademi award winners.

A businessman was hospitalized after attacked with sharp weapon by miscreants at Champa bazaar area on Friday evening in Kokrajhar district. He was identified as Tamizaddin Anza ri (32) of Mozabari area. He was immediately rushed to Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital and stated to be critical. Details is awaited. 
Salakati police in Kokrajhar district arrested a vehicular thief late last night at Salakati rail track.  He was identified as Naba Das of Belsar in Nalbari district, who was involved with stealing of a four wheeler Mahindra pick up van bearing registration AS-16C-2207. An FIR was registered no.138/16 with Salakati police outpost in this connection, under section (u/s) 457/380/411 IPC. 
In a joint operation launched by the security forces from Assam Police and Army apprehended a cadre of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) at Salakati village under Kokrajhar PS on Friday.  He was identified as Sonaram Roy of Balagaon area of Kokrajhar district. An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel. A live fire fighting exercise was carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel. Cracks appeared in the Religious Minority Council(RMC),BTC region over the issue of supporting to the Bodoland Peoples Front(BPF) party in the ensuing Assam assembly election.The rift appeared in the council after president Sohrab Khan announced openly that RMC leaves to support the BPF party in the election. Security forces from Assam Police and Army have claimed to capture two-over ground worker (OGW)/linkmen of Kamatapur Liberation Organisation(KLO) from Thuribari area in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.
