SSB seizes record cannabis in 2015

The 61 battalion of SSB stationed at Bhairabkunda of Udalguri district has seized 6382 kilogram of cannabis (ganja) from the area in 2015. A total of 123 persons were arrested involved in illegal trade of cannabis including timber smuggling. A total of 1582 kilogram ganja was seized only in the current month till January 19. The battalion has been conducting special operations in the areas of West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh and trying to combat anti-social activities in the region.

The SSB troop has been trying their level best to combat the illegal activities and to aware the local people to uproot the illegal cultivation and business. The ganja cultivation was the traditional habit of the villagers of Boha. The village which is situated in the interior area of West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.Boha is the den of the ganja cultivation. The villagers resisted SSB jawans during their operation and the jawans recovered 905 kilograms ganja on December 30 last year. As per sources there are about 200 families in the village and each family is involved in the illegal cultivation of cannabis directly or indirectly. A group of 69 person involved in timber smuggling were apprehended by the operating SSB team and handed over to the police.

They have also seized 69 logs of timber.
