Election preparedness in Chirang

To conduct the ensuing Assam  assembly election smoothly in Chirang district under 31-Sidli (ST) LAC, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Rupak Kumar Mazumdar has made all necessary arrangements in place before the notification of election is out. 

All events related to conduct of elections like  awareness programme through SVEEP,  forming of various cells and appointment of  Nodal Officers for those cells and final assessment of  condition of polling stations have been done. It has also finalised the detailed planning of security,  requirement of polling personnel, requirement of vehicles and its plan. 

As such, in a meeting held with ARO, Nodal Officers of cells, Zonal and Sector officers and  political parties recently at Kajalgaon in the conference hall of the Chirang DC  office, DC explained the over all election preparedness plan, duties and responsibilities of the officers detailed in the election duties and the guidelines of the ECI for the political parties regarding MCC and expenditure issues. He also took reports from the political parties as they had experienced in the last elections. He  has assured to extend all possible help to them whenever they face any problems during election process.

Meanwhile, it has formed 22 election cells and appointed an ARO, 6 Zonal Officers and 27 Sector Officers for smooth conducting of election under 31- Sidli (ST) LAC. 

It is to be stated that presently there are 1,89,841 electors in  Sidli LAC, of this 94,999 are male and 94,842 are female electors. In the assembly election of 2011, the BPF candidate Chandan Brahma defeated the Independent candidate Maoti Brahma Hazowary by 36,881 votes. Brahma secured 68,127  against 31,246 votes of Brahma Hazowary. As such, in the Lok Sabha election of 2014,  Naba Kumar Sarania was polled 54,943 while his close contestant Urkhao Gwra Brahma polled 51,210 votes, while sitting MLA Chandan Brahma had to be in the third position with 25,808 votes.
