PNB donates fans, bags to students

The 122 nd formation  Day of the Punjab National Bank  ( PNB ) of India here was marked by corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives including donating  7 ceiling fans to Jongal Balahu Garh primary school , Raha to facilitate students attending their classes in comfortable way.

At a brief function on Tuesday morning, the PNB Raha Branch Manager Alakesh Bhattasaryaa  gave away the fans  to the school authority

Prior to the function held at J.B.Garh school, the PNB, Raha branch organized  another programme  at Raha Girls’ High school .The function was presided over by Kalpana Barua, Headmistress of the school and  was attended by Dhruba Das, Chairman, Raha Town committee, Mridul Hazarika, advisor, AASU Raha unit besides the teaching staffs and students of the school  . In the function , 10 girl students of the school from poor back ground were provided study materials like school bags , copies ,pens,umbrella and other essentials along with some cash towards school fees through Savings Bank A/Cs opended in their name under “ PNB LADLI “ programme for popularization of education among the girl child.

Addressing  the students, Alakesh Bhattasaryaa,  Bank  Manager, PNB, Raha  appreciated the role of the teachers for running such like institutions for the betterment of children in particular and society in general. He assured the students that the bank would always try to help and give every possible support to the schools  so that no child feels any disadvantage for getting proper education. He,  in detail, explained to the students about the Bank Education Loan and Student Deposit Scheme

Kalpana Barua in her speech, thanked the PNB , Raha branch  for this gesture. She  added that PNB through its CSR programmes is doing appreciable work in providing a helping hand to not only to the students but also schools.

It might be mentioned here that  Punjab National Bank, India’s first Swadeshi Bank, commenced its operation on April 12 , 1895 at Lahore. The far sighted visioneries and patriots like Lala Lajpat Rai, E.C. Jessawala, Babu Kali Prasanna Roy and others showed courage in giving expression to the sprit of nationalism by establishing the bank purely managed by the Indians and Indian capital. That was the beginning of the journey of Punjab National Bank, popularly known as PNB.Today, PNB with a network of 6899 branches and 9473 ATMs, stands tall amongst  nationalized  banks in India.

Ajit Boruah bags Pagladia Sahitya award

Noted Poet,Critic , Sahitya Academy winner Ajit Boruah will be awarded the' Pagladia Sahitya Bota' 2008, instituted by Nalbari based Paglapaera Gosthi for his book Padyar Pasar Kabya .The award carries a cash amount of Rs 10,000 and a citation. Road to be named after freedom fighter

People turn aggressive against Raiway authority in Nagaon

The people of Nagaon turns aggressive against the decision made by NF Railway to temporarily suspend the Haibargaon-Guwahati rail service. Tiger attacks villagers : Forest Department's failure makes people angry

A full-grown Royal Bengal tiger which is creating terror in Roha and Kampur areas since Sunday night last attacked two villagers today at 2.30 in the afternoon at Meteka, a village three kilometers away from Roha. The attacked villagers are identified as Bhuban Das and Durlabh Das. Both the villagers are poor farmers and they were working in their paddy fields at the time they had been attacked. Threat to blow up temple in Morigaon

A temple priest of an old temple, Sri Mahaprabhu Goranga Temple, situated in Morigaon district received three threat call that the temple would be blown up by bombs very soon.According to the information received from police officials that , the priest of the Ram and Krishna temple in Morigaon district , received three calls from a Airtel number 9961355107 on November 2nd last, that the Goranga temple would be blown up by bombing very soon.Meanwhile the investigation is on and the identity of the caller was yet to be ascertained. Nagaon Bar Association condemns blast

The members of the Nagaon Bar Association in an extraordinary general meeting on Friday condemned the serial blast in four different places of the state by the terrorist organizations which claimed more than 80 innocent lives and causing drastic injuries to several hundreds of people, in a press release said.Expressing shock over the security of the ordinary people’s lives, several speakers vehemently condemned the role of administration and police. Raid at Moirabari in Nagaon

Police of Nagaon district raided a Public Call Office located at Moirabari in Nagaon and seized a good number of illegal documents.Police personnel said to Assam Times during a talk that the SMS which was sent to the television channel News Live through a Reliance mobile SIM card was connected from the raid PCO. Police also arrested several persons from the area in this connection for further questioning. Nagaon police urge all the people to inform the police if any movement of militant groups is observed in the area.

Burning bandh: vehicle burnt down during Tiwa Bandh

A vehicle which was burnt down by bandh supporters at Dighaliati near Raha on NH 37 in Nagaon district. The bandh was called for 24 hrs by Tiwa Students Union and Karbi Students Union.

Violence mars Central Assam Bandh

In support of its demand for inclusion of the Tiwa Autonomous areas in the Sixth schedule and demanding ST status for the Karbi people living in the plains, the Tiwa Students Union and Karbi Students Union have jointly called for a 24 hour Central Assam Bandh today on October 18,2008.The vehicles are being run in tight security arrangements by the Police.
