Bwisagu celebrated in Kokrajhar

People, young and old in traditional attire were seen participating in the celebration singing and dancing to the beat of Bodo musical instruments like kham, jhota, serja, jotha on the occasion of Rongjali Bwisagu(Rongali Bihu),along  with rest of the state of Assam on Thursday.

The Rongjali Bwisagu, a festival of Bodos merry making enjoyment on the first day of Bwisak month (Rongali Bihu), being organized by the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) at Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) ground in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district, peoples from all walks of life thronged with traditional attire and dances. People were seen making merry making celebrating the spring festival with pomp and gaiety singing and dancing. Promod Boro,ABSU president hoisted union flag while noted writer and sahitya academy awarded Brajendra Kumar Brahma hoisted Bwisagu flag on the occasion in the presence of huge Bwisagu singer and damsels.

Promod Boro,ABSU president extending greeting to all citizens of the state on the occasion of Rongjali Bwisagu(Rongali Bigu) said that the Bwisagu is festival of enjoying with own culture. ‘Let, the Bwisagu to bring peace and harmony among all section sections of community in the state’,Boro said.

Rwisumwi Brahma and Dilip Narzary,Bodo dancers wished happy Bwisagu or happy Bihu on the Bwisagu celebration.

Former Rajya Sabha MP and UPP president Urkhao Gwra Brahma,BTC MCLA Jyotirindra Brahma were among others prominent attendees on the celebration.

The Kokrajhar district unit of All Bodo Students Union condemned inhuman treatment of  Goutam Biswas of GB Enterprise, who supplied damaged rice, unfit for consumption, to the flood affected vulnerable people at Kashibari, North Patgaon, Habrubari in Kokrajhar Revenue Circle on  July 22. Two persons were apprehended for involved with poaching under Bhuyanpara forest range in Manash National Park in Baksa on Tuesday.  According to forest official, a joint team of forest staff from Bhuyanpara range and Salbari police conducted a search operation in Rupohi area where two poachers were arrested along with a piece of ivory. Red Horn Division of Army organizes a medical camp for flood affected areas in Kokrajhar district on Monday. Over 200 citizens from flood affected areas were given away free medicine as well health check up by army doctor and civil hospitals in the district. Several villages were severely affected in the flood waters since few days in the district due to incessant rain. The medical camp was organized to give free medical check up and distribution of medicines under humanity services among flood affected citizens in the district, said a senior army official.

Security forces claimed to have killed a dreaded NDFB-S leader during a joint counter insurgency operation in Kokrajhar district on Monday. An army team accompanied by police and para military forces conducted a raid at a house where he was hiding. Firstly, the NDFB-S activists allegedly targeted the army and police and when retaliated he died on the spot. Police further claimed to have seized some arms and ammunition from the spot. Flood situation continue to be grim in many parts of Kokrajhar and Chirang district in Lower Assam with many areas still submerged under water. The rising water level of major rivers flowing downstream from upstream Bhutan and incessant rain has worsened the situation in many parts of the two districts. Several villages in greater Saralpara area along the Indo Bhutan border in Kokrajhar district were severely affected today due to heavy flood water from Sarpang River of Bhutan.
