Assam state BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal is taking oath as Chief Minister on Tuesday after his party swept the recent assembly polls. Governor PB Acharya is scheduled to administer the Union minister of oath of office and secrecy at a function at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara in the morning to succeed Tarun Gogoi who has resigned when his party could not retain the power.

Prime Minister Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah along with other top party leaders are scheduled to attend the function. His small council of ministers are also expected to take the oath.

The newly elected legislators are meeting in Dispur on Sunday where Sonowal would be formally announced as the legislative party leader. On Monday, BJP, AGP and BPF legislators will hold a joint meeting to discuss the government formation.

Cong set to win 2 RS seats

Congress is set to win two of the three Rajya Sabha seats in the polls slated for February 7. The ruling party is likely to leave the remaining seat for the Bodoland Peoples’ Party.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi gave hint of the equation at a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday. Contest polls: Gogoi to ULFA(I)

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that he would welcome Paresh Baruah if ULFA((I) comes forward to contest in the polls.Talking to reporters on Wednesday in Dispur, Gogoi said that he would be happy if the outfit along with the Akhil Gogoi—led KMSS and Aam Admi Party join the election process.   

Youths crushed to death

Two local youths were killed in Nagaon district when a speeding truck rammed in to their scooter on Tuesday.The tragic mishap took place on the national highway in Bebejia when the scooter in which the youths were riding on from the market.The duo died on the spot. An irate mob then came to the street and set on fire the truck after the driver managed to escape.

In a bizarre incident that sends shockwaves across the state, a Class X student from Guwahati was burnt alive in Morigaon on Monday.The incident took place in Morigaon where a school boy was burnt to death at a bhelaghar hours after he went with his one of his friends in the morning.Police on Tuesday arrested his four friends who took the student to Morigaon from Guwahati.

Mooshahary to fight from Kokrajhar

LS polls: AIUDF to go it alone

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) will fight it alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.This was what party president Badaruddin Ajmal told reporters in Guwahati after he held a close door meeting on Tuesday.
