ABSU protests for scholarships
The Udalguri district committee All Bodo Students' Union( ABSU) staged a two hour sit in demonstration from 11 am at ITDP office,Udalguri in demand of regularization of scholarships to ST (P ) students of schools and colleges of the district on Friday.A memorandum regarding the same was forwarded to Jual Oram, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs,Govt. of India through DC office Udalguri .
The activists of ABSU submitted the memorandum in hand to Dimple Baruah Assistant Commissoner ,Udalguri.
The memorandum read that due to negligence of authorities of Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) and respective college authorities students of the community are deprived of scholarships as per government norms. ABSU sought necessary action from the government as to regularize the scholarships of the students.
The memorandum also demanded issue of pending scholarships from 2005-06 to 2015-16,CBI inquiry into irregularities of long pending scholarships,special budget provisions for the scholarships and also to increase the amount of scholarships.
The copies of memorandum were also forwarded to state government,BTC government and authorities of ITDP.The demonstration was attended by Rinjoy Boro -President Udalguri ABSU along with hundreds of school and college students. Students participating in were seen holding playcards that read 'ITDP go back' 'No scolarship no rest' etc;

A person allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of Rangapara-Rangia passenger train at Purandia on the outskirts of Tangla at about 10 pm. Reteirating its various demands the Anganwadi helpers and workers association under Bhergaon ICDS protested wearing black badges on Monday infront of CDPO office, Bhergaon from 10 am to 12 pm. The protesters demanded hike in wages, extra facilities for the workers and helpers. The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the PM Modi through the office of CDPO Bhergaon. The memorandum reiterated various old demands that included recognition of Anganwadi workers and helpers as government servants,increase of monthly wages to Rs.15000, recruitment of supervisor posts from the workers of Anganwadi,post retirement facilities.
In yet another case of reckless driving of two wheelers by teenagers one Jacob Bedi (17) lost his life in a road accident near Indian Oil Depot Tangla on Monday at about 8.45 am. Reportedly the Bajaj Pulsar 150 bearing registration(AS 13 F 0227) number rode by the deceased was pillioned by Bishal Swargiary(17) when all at a sudden the bike smashed in a tractor trailer carrying sand. To keep a tab in the soaring prices of essential commodities and thereby provide consumers products at cheap rates the Food and Civil supplies department of the state government formally inagurated Amar Dukan stall at Udalguri on Friday. The Muslim brethren are preparing for culmination of the month-long Ramzan festivities tomorrow . The new moon is expected to be sighted on the evening of July 6 and the devout will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on July 7.
