Tearful farewell to Anjan Dutta

The mortal remains of Anjan Dutta were consigned to flames on Friday a day after the APCC president died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi. After last respect to the lifeless former minister in Guwahati and Sivasagar, Dutta’s body was taken to Gaurisagar where he was cremated with full state honour in the afternoon. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma, MP Ripun Bora were prominent among those who were present at the cremation ground. Before that thousands of bereaved Congress men received Dutta’s body at the Jorhat Airport in the morning and was taken to Sivasagar to facilitate his fans to pay their last respect in Sivasagar town and his birth place Gayan gaon.

Dutta died of cardiac ailment on Thursday morning at the All India Institute of Medical Science a couple of weeks after he was rushed to it. The party in rank and file have condoled his death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Rain waters are back to wreak havoc in Guwahati on Friday following the incessant rains for the last two days. Massive waterlogging has disrupted normal life in Lachitnagar, Nabin Nagar, Anil Nagar, Tarun Nagar, Chandmari areas from Thursday.Surafce transport remains off from these areas under the impact of the paralyzing waterlogging.  "The rivers Bharalu, Basistha and Bihini are not in a position to contain the rainwaters in the city. We are taking steps to divert the rainwaters to the Bharalu by using pumpsets," said distrit administration officials.The situation is likely to turn worse if the rains refuse to halt.       
Bangaluru police have freed the son of a Congress MLA from Assam hours after he was accrested in a rape case where the victim died in a local hospital.According to allegations, Rhituraj Phukan, the son of MLA was released from the Krishna Nagar police station on Thursday 24 hours after he was picked up along with his friend Pallav Phukan. Both Rhituraj and Pallav allegedly raped a housemaid at a room who later succumbed to her injuries on Thursday forcing police to arrest the duo.   But police alegedly had to release Rhituraj at the instance of a circle of powerful political leaders.
