The mortal remains of Anjan Dutta were consigned to flames on Friday a day after the APCC president died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi. After last respect to the lifeless former minister in Guwahati and Sivasagar, Dutta’s body was taken to Gaurisagar where he was cremated with full state honour in the afternoon. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma, MP Ripun Bora were prominent among those who were present at the cremation ground. Before that thousands of bereaved Congress men received Dutta’s body at the Jorhat Airport in the morning and was taken to Sivasagar to facilitate his fans to pay their last respect in Sivasagar town and his birth place Gayan gaon.
Dutta died of cardiac ailment on Thursday morning at the All India Institute of Medical Science a couple of weeks after he was rushed to it. The party in rank and file have condoled his death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

An eerie silence prevails in Chandel district of Manipur bordering Myanmar a day after the insurgents killed 18 army jawans on Thursday.But the security forces yet to fan in the Moltuk area fearing more ambush after the deadly attack by the insurgents killed the jawans belonging to the 6 Dogra infantry regiment. After weeks of will-it-won’t-it, the Assam government restricts sale of maggi from Thursday. The decision was finalized hours after the experts found the substance of lead and MSG in the Nestle product.Health minister Dr Nazrul Islam who received the report from the laboratory has finally asked the authority to restrict sale and purchase of maggi. On Wednesday the health department collected the maggi samples and conducted test at the laboratory where the inadmissible substances surfaced. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi asked the health department to submit a report by Thursday to clear its stand on the maggi controversy.
Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has reiterated its old demand for a special law to protect the media persons on duty across the country. The television media forum argued that the scribes, both from print and electronic media should get the protection under the special laws in the line of physicians on duty.“We have observed with dismay that more journalists today face physical attacks when they are on risky assignments around the country. Normal life in lower areas remained partially disrupted following a 12 hour bandh call by six non Bodo organizations on Thursday demanding ST status.The bandh which began at 6 in the morning evoked hardly any response in the Bodo dominated areas in Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon.Bus and train services remained uninterrupted in these areas. Same it was in the shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices. The statewide bandh had mixed response in some particular areas in lower Assam.
