Marred by a slew of untoward incidents, the 12 hour central Assam bandh concluded on Monday evening called by 8 organizations demanding the proposed AIIMS in Raha. The untoward incident took place when a section of bandh supporters tried to enforce bandh call by pelting stones and water bottles at some vehicles on the National Highway No 37 in Raha. A group of bandh supporters set on fire many shops at Ambagan and attacked some of the local businessmen who allegedly tried to defy the call. Protesters in large number blocked the National Highway in Raha for more than 8 hours who clashed with police after partially damaging some vehicles.
Former minister Chandan Sarkar also was not spared when he on his way to Nagaon from Guwahati. The protestors targeted health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleging that the Centre decided to shift the proposed AIMMS venue to Cahnagsari from Raha only at acting on his conspiracy. Squarely, they blamed Nagaon MP Rajen Gohain for his failure to properly take up the matter with the Centre.
