Rebel Congress leader Kalikho Pul refused to step down even a day after the Supreme Court reinstated Nabam Tuki as Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister. Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Thursday, he said “I am ready to prove my strength. Why should I resign. I am legally the Chief Minister.”

Flanked by his loyal legislators at a hotel in Guwahati, Pul claimed to have the support of 30 MLAs in his camp.

In yet another development, Nabam Tuki who resumed office as Chief Minister after the court ruling is holding a hectic parleys with his close associates and loyal legislators to form his council of ministers again. Top Congress leaders are also attending the meeting in Itanagar. Meanwhile, Assam BJKP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that Pul enjoyed the support of 30 MLAs.

Both Tuki and Pul camps had a hectic day on Thursday a day after the Supreme Court ordered both the camps to maintain "status quo ante as it prevailed on December 15" last year in Arunachal Pradesh.

Lieztietsu to replace Zeliang

Zeliang quits as Nagaland CM

Bowing down to the pressure mounted on him by the protestors, TR Zeliang is learnt to have put in papers as Nagaland chief minister on Friday. The huge development took place immediately after Zeliang and governor OB Acharya arrived in New Delhi on Thursday evening. They duo met union home minister Rajnath Singh where they apprised the Centre of the on going impasse following the indefinite shut down call by the civil society organizations in protest against the 33 per cent reservation for women.

Former Cong legislator arrested

The Arunachal police have grilled Sanjay Raj Subba in connection with a cheating and fraud case after they arrested the former Congress MLA from Naoboisa on Thursday.A team of police from Sepa rushed to Subba’s residence in Harmoti in the morning and lifted him to be arrested. One of his close associates is still on the run.According to allegations, Subba took Rs 50 lakh as bride from a contractor in Arunachal Pradesh promising award if contract which was not materialized. Then the contractor filed a complaint in the police station where the three tine MLA was arrested.

HSLC, AHM exams begin

Amid an unprecedented security and CCTV vigil, the High School Certificate examination and High Madrasa examination have begun across the state on Friday.The Assam state secondary education board is holding the examinations from 9 in the morning with 3,80,665 HSLC and 10, 647 HM candidates at 855 centres across the state.For the first time, the secondary education board is holding the examinations amid tight security deploying policemen to ensure normalcy. The authorities have clamped 144 CrPC in and around the centres.CCTV cameras have been installed in many examination centres to prevent the candidates from resorting to unfair means. Bail for Sadananda Gogoi

After Manoranjana Sinh yet another chit fund scam accused procured bail. He is Sadananda Gogoi whom the Calcutta High Court granted bail after languishing in the central jail for more than 800 days.Hearing the bail plea on Thursday, a division bench of the court rejected CBI’s submission that Gogoi’s bail would hamper investigation.The court, however, asked the accused not to leave Kolkata and to appear before the investigation office once in every month. Union health minister JP Nadda is on a two days visit to Assam on Friday injecting fresh hopes in the state’s health sector.
