In a bizarre move that leaves the BJP-led government red faced on the floor on Monday, AGP thrashed the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for the controversial move on the Hindu Bangladeshi nationals.
Former Chief Minister and AGP leader PK Mahanta said that he was dead opposed to the move and that it would be an insult to the spirit of Assam Accord.
However, AGP president Atul Bora who holds the agriculture minister looked very disappointed when his predecessor rose to speak on the controversial move to give refugee status for the Hindu nationals of the neighbouring countries.

Why Can't they go and settle in west bengal? Assam is already a semi-bengal. Mahanta did a good job by raising his opinion. Ruling the govt doesn't mean you don't have a voice against election manifesto.
The Centre has exempted Assam from the land deal with Bangladesh. The union cabinet finalised the decision on wednesday. Minister Sarbananda Sonowal told Assam Times that the goverment has done it honouring the sentiments of the people who have been opposing it.
Yet another body of pilgrim from Assam has been identified in Nepal. Identified as Padma Mazumdar, the resident of Hengrabari area of Guwahati has been traceless since the massive tremor ravaged the Himalaya kingdom. Her son and son in law discovered her decomposed body from Chising Hospital in Kathmandu on Thursday. The body would be flown to New Delhi on Friday and after post mortem it would be sent to Guwahati.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has come down heavily on prime minister Narendra Modi a day after the union cabinet dropped Assam from the purview of the land swap deal with Bangladesh. Addressing a press conference in Dispur, Gogoi said the decision would harm the state. "Now we can't complete the border fencing smoothly only of centre"s political decision," said the chief minister.
Siddique Ahmed has been jailed after Karimganj police arrested the former minister on Thursday in connection with an assault case. Karimganj police arrested him as the court rejected his petition where he was resent. For the last several months he has been ignoring the court summon in connection with a case filed against him by Razaul Karim. The liquor tragedy toll in Titabor has gone upto 5 with the death of two more people on Thursday. Bipul Saikia and Bohagi Santhal died on Thursday at JMCH four days after the duo were admitted along with 20 others. They started vomitting and complained of stomach ache hours after they consumed illicit liquor at Dholi tea garden. Three died on the same day. With this, the toll has gone upto 5.

Yet another quake survivor family is arriving in Guwahati on Thursday. Arjun Upadhyay and his family members arrived in Delhi on Wednesday by an IAF plane. " We are fine and ready to leave to Guwahati on Thursday," they told Assam Times.
