NDFB (S) informer held

Police apprehended a suspected over ground worker/sympathizer of NDFB-S identified as Paulina Basumatary 22, wife of a NDFB-S cadre Compounder alias Khaose from No 1 Nandipur village under Kachugaon police station in Kokrajhar district .

Police said Rs 15,000 (extorted from Audung Bazar area) have been recovered from her possession which was supposed to be handed over to NDB-S cadre.

She was working as a channel of communication between the NDFB-S cadres and over ground worker in that area through her husband. She has been playing a very important role in siphoning off extortion money to the outfit in Myanmar through the OGWs/sympathisers.

Adivashis demand ST status

A four hour protest dharna was held in front of DC office in Kokrajhar on Friday demanding solution to various issues of the Adivashi community, includes ST status, land pattas, introducing of Santhali language. Hundreds of people from Adivashi community and members from Adivashi Sengel Abhijan, Jharkhand Desam Party participated in the protest. A memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi through Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar seeking early granting of ST status to the Adivashi community.  

Awareness meeting held on witch hunting

An awareness campaign was organized at Modati playground, Kazigaon,  Kokrajhar on Thursday on superstition in the society. The progarmme was organised by Kokrajhar police under project prahari to create awareness on witch hunting and superstition. “Project Prahari” is an initiative by Assam Police for participatory development and people friendly policing to fight social maladies and deprivation. BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, who is also finance in-charge, presented the BTC Budget Rs. 4668 crores with a surplus of Rs.43 crore of normal budget for the year 2019-2020 on Tuesday.

At least 120 litres of illicit liquors have been destroyed at Tulideepa area near Kokrajhar tea estate during the search operation in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. Post Hooch tragedy in Golaghat district, the excise department has initiated strong measures against illicit liquor in Kokrajhar district.

BPF ready for LS polls: MP Daimary

Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary told the media on Monday at Kokrajhar that their party BPF is fully prepared to contest in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.  Party is totally prepared to put candidate in the Kokrajhar seat. Fr Mangaldoi seat, they rare onsidering a good candidate. He said that in some seats, their party may extend support to alliance partner.  He also claimed that BPF has majority supports to win the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat. Laptops distributed

Barama FC lifts BTC-Army trophy

Barama football Club (FC), Baksa lifted the 3rd BTC-Army football league trophy defeating the Kokrajhar Blues by 1-0 in the final match held at KDSA stadium ground in Kokrajhar on Sunday. For Barama FC, Pingkul Basumatary scored lone goal against Kokrajhar in 45 minutes of the first half which led the team to win the football league and lifted the championship trophy.
