Teachers'Day celebrated in Udalguri district with gaiety

The teachers are the torch bearers of the society.Their intellectual pursuits help their students to achieve goal. Now, since we are in the competitive world, the young generation will have to study hard to meet the challenge and the teachers should make their students to cultivate a competitive mind to meet the target. This was observed by Rihon Daimari, Minister, Food and Civil Supplies and PHE of Assam while addressing a congregation of working and retired teachers here at the conference hall of inspector of schools of Udalguri district circle here at Udalguri town today.The minister,who is also the local MLA addressed the assembly of teachers as the chief guest on the occasion of the 55^th Teachers’ Day celebrated to commemorate the birthday of former president of India Dr. S Radhakrishnan.The programme organized by Udalguri District Teachers’ Day Celebration Committee was chaired by Sadhana Hojai, Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district and also the president of the celebration committee. Speaking on the occasion, Dr.Biren Deka, retired principal of Mangaldoi B.Ed. College highlighted the life and works of the great Indian scholar. Earlier to this, Bishnu Sarma, retired head master of Golmagaon high school lighted the earthen lamp in front of the photo of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and floral tributes were paid by all guests and teachers to the great Indian philosopher on the occasion.NC Boro,inspector of the schools of Udalguri district anchored the whole programme while Tridip Daimari, speaker of BTC assembly,Ripen Daimari,MCLA of Bhairabkunda constituency, Nareswar Deka,President’s Teachers Awardee, Malati Deka,retired teacher,Manik Sarmah,retired principal of Udalguri HS school,Jayanta Kumar Das,senior media person of Udalguri district also spoke on the occasion.It is to be noted that a total of 114 retired teachers of various LP, ME, high and higher secondary schools of the district were felicitated with cash Rs. 1000 each along with an endi chadar, a packet of books and an umbrella each as a token of recognition to their dedication in service period while nine in-service teachers of LP, ME, high and HS schools were awarded Rs. 5000 cash each by the BTC administration for their excellence in teaching.It is worth mentioning here that the schools of Udalguri district today wore a festive look today along with other parts of the country with variety of programmes on the occasion of teachers’ day.On the occasion of 55th Teachers' Day celebration, Bhupali Barman, a student of Class ten of Ramswaroop Agarwalla Memorial English School, Udalguri was felicitated for securing first position in Assam state level science project competition organized by the Regional Science Centre,Khanapara. She will represent Assam in the all India session to be held at Mumbai during second week of October this year. Her project theme was "Pulses for sustainable food security: Prospects and challenges".Senior teacher and journalist of Udalguri district Gautamjyoti Talukdar had his own way of celebrating Teachers’ Day.He along with students and teachers visited the houses of retired teachers to offer respect and gifts.
