Dr Madan Mohan Reddy, senior consultant on orthopedic surgery from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai attended the 'Evening with a Doctor' program on Saturday (26 November 2016) at Guwahati Press Club (GPC). Over 25 GPC member-journalists along with their relatives participated in the evening OPD and got free consultations on various ailments like back-neck- knee pain, major fractures, arthritis etc. Apollo’s marketing officer Roopjyoti Baruah assisted in conducting the camp.
The next evening clinic on 3 December at GPC premises will be attended by eye specialists Dr Subhra Kinkor Goswami & Dr Bijuli Goswami of Sight First. The camp will begin at 4 pm and continue till 6 pm for the benefit of GPC member-journalists.
The death of eminent educationist, social scientist, renowned geographer and author Mohammad Taher has been widely condoled across the state. Professor Taher breathed his last in a private hospital in Guwahati yesterday morning after a prolonged illness. He was 83. After obtaining his PhD degree from the Auckland University, Newzealand he joined the Gauhati University as a teacher. Described as a doyen of Indian Geography,Mohammad Taher retired from the Geography Department of the Gauhati University as Head and Dean of Faculty of Science in the 1990s. He authored more than 20 text books for geography students besides books on other subjects.

Tension prevails in the Assam-Nagaland border today after Naga miscreants opened indiscriminate firing upon villagers forcing them to flee their homes Seleng Amtolia in Mariani near here. A 12-member suspected NSCN militant group also burned down a small tea garden in the area. Police and district administration officials rushed to the spot after the incident.

Ashraful Hussain Laskar, a student from Hailakandi in Assam was found dead in the Madhuwala police station area in Bangaluru. Ashraful died after he fell from a building. Police has been investigating any foul play in the incident.
Tension prevails in Behali, near the Assam-Arunachal border in Sonitpur district after the India Reserve Battalion (IR Bn) allegedly opened fire on innocent people yesterday. The incident occurred at around 11 am at Chawaldhowa in the Behali Reserved Forest when forest officials accompanied by Sonitpur district administration engaged a group of labourers to start building work of the border outposts. According to sources, the battalion stationed in the area opened fire upon the innocent labourers forcing them to flee the spot. The All India United Democratic Front has put a stop to all speculations on a pre poll alliance with the ruling Congress party and made it clear that it will continue to go alone. In a statement, the AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal said his party will continue to follow its “Ekla Chalo” policy. He further alleged that the speculations on the AIUDF entering into an alliance with the Congress are intended to sow confusion among party workers as state polls are drawing near.The AIUDF leader added that his party has maintained equidistance from both the Congress and the BJP. Senior citizen and social activist of Margherita Guru Prasad Chetia passed away following cardiac arrest at his resident at Thermal Road on Sunday evening.He was 68. Chetia, a retired telecom SDO associated with many organizations for the last couple of years. He was the president of Margherita Senior Citizen's Association, President of Margherita Gano Mancho, Life Time Member of Ledo Valley Lions Club,President of Asomiya Bhaasha Shartho Suraksha Manch and many other social related organisation.He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
