A moving train in Nagaon district crushed to death three wild elephants sending huge shockwaves to the animal lovers.
The shocking incident took place at Kampur area in the morning when a train rammed into a herd of wild elephants as they came down from a nearby hill in search of food.
The local villagers came to see the bodies only in the morning. “ As I was about to wake up I came to hear the horn of train. This was followed the cries of animals.
But I could not afford to come out. In the morning I came to spot three bodies,” said Sanjay Gohain, a local villager.
Pranati Saikia, a local housewife told Assam Times that wild elephants have been unleashing mo less of terror in this area for the last couple of days.
“These wild elephants come down from the hill looking for food. They already have destroyed our paddy fields. But we are shocked to have seen this tragic incident,” said Pranita.
The local villagers have blamed it all on the forest officials alleging that despite repeated complaints, nobody stepped in.
Later the forest officials and local villagers took away the bodies to be buried.
