Weightlifter Monica Devi was on Saturday cleared off all doping charges by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The clearance came after IOA found that the charges leveled against the athlete were false and an attempt to malign her image. After Monica Devi's allegation that she was being framed, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh stepped in and approached the Prime Minister Office, thus paving the way for the weightlifter's return.
The clearance brought momentary relief for the athlete; however, as the IOA said that it was too late for her to fly to Beijing.

I watch this Olympics without a single reason to cheer as many of my compatriots would be - there's hardly a representation for a country of more than a billion - we keep sending old horses like Leander Paes and Dola Banerjee to work a miracles and a handful of young sportsmen whose dream ends with the participation. Even if we get a bronze I think we might declare a national holiday. As a nation we are so obsessed with Bollywood and Cricket that we either see Amir Khan carrying the Olympics torch or Sachin Tendulkar. I think next time we should send a dozen Bollywood stars and a T20 team to take part in the various events - even though we would make a donkey out of ourselves - a billion Indians would have a reason to watch and cheer. Funny how we have sent 4 representatives of the Hockey fed to watch and learn on taxpayer's money even when both men's and women's team disgracefully didn't qualify. Mr. Kalmadi must have been working very hard in his office. I'm sure he's planning a watch and learn trip around the world starting from Trinidad and Tobago that wins more medals than India.

The hegemony of some states over the weaker state is proved too in the sport arena in India. Manipur is representing a good number of participants in Olympic. Monica is a proud daughter of the seven sisters. Let us all be with her in fighting for justice.The issue is nothing but a usual scam prevalent in India. Is anyone ready to booked the culprit?

Even China is not a homogenous society, but for the Olympics they have chosen the best from its different regions. Why is it that such injustice as done to Monica Singh takes place in India?

I wonder why any other News websites,dailies and channels do not publish that dope charge has been cleared though they all publish with enthusiasm publish Monica Devi failed in doping test in their front page... Why don't they print that It was false charges? Who and all were involved must be punished. Else India will remain a Country who will be overjoyed when winning a single medal or none for each Olympic.. Let this incidence be the last. This is a country where Mahatama Gandhi was born. Three peope have been injured while a powerful blast rocked a vegetable market in Nalbari. The explosion took place at 6in the evening. The injure peopes have been rushed to the hospital. With less than 24 hours left for the Republic Day, security has been beefed up across the state to ensure peace and normalcy during the day. Besides intensifying patrolling on the streets, police and para military troops have been deployed at the vital bridges, railway stations along with oil and gas installations apprehending militant strikes. NABARD has planned to invest a total Rs 2224.63 crore for 2008-2009 in Assam. Addressing a seminar held on Thursday at the Assam Administrative Staff College, the banks’s chief general manager C K Gopalakrishna said of this amount, the potential assessed for agriculture is Rs 886.38 crore , Rs 441.05 crore for industries while Rs 897.19 crore is being kept for services. He said in view of the thrust on agriculture and food processing industries, a credit potential of Rs 35.23 crore has been estimated for the year. The Black Widow has killed one Amri Rupsi in Haflong on Thursday morning alleging him to be a police informer. According to information, the publicity secretary of the outfit Phaisang Dimasa came to Rupsi at around 7 in the morning and took him away to the street and shot dead from a close range saying him to be a police informer. Amid tight security, Assam is going to the fourth and final phase of the panchayat elections in Darrang district from in the morning on Thursday. The polling is going on at 728 voting centers in the district. As many as 4,50,000 voters are voting for 3659 candidates. The voting will end at 4.00 pm. Around 70 per cent of the voters had exercised their franchise in the first phase of the polls on December 31, while around 72 per cent cast their votes in the second phase on January 4. An estimated 74 per cent of the electorate had exercised their franchise in the third phase of polling on January 9.
Thirty-eight ULFA cadres, including a woman cadre, laid down their arms before the army in Tamulpur in Baksa district on Thursday morning. The group was by Nayan Kakoti who surrendered before the GOC 4 Corps Lt Gen B S Jamwal at 21 Mountain Brigade Headquarters of Red Horn Division.
