Sahitya sabha begins centenary

Amid a simmering anger and controversy, the Asom Sahitya Sabha is holding its centenary celebration in the historic Jerenga Pothar where the state’s largest non political organization was born in 1917.

Around two lakh people have thronged the centenary venue named after Padmanath Gohain Baruah, the first sabha president. Apart from seminars', poetssummit, the book fair, exhibitions are teeming with the people of all walks of life.

Noted litterateur and former Asom Sahiyta Sabha president Dr Lakhinandan Bora is presiding over the main session to be attended by a host of writers, poets and authors.Cultural functions are also lined up in the evening.

A section of miscreants allegedly assaulted former secretary Dr Paramananda Rajbanshi as he arrived in the main venue on Wednesday evening which generated anger among the knowledgable circle. Rajbanshi vanished from the spot immediately after he was attacked.
