Torch rally for Bodoland

Reiterating its movement for separate Bodoland state, activists of All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), under the aegis of six regional committees viz. Dimakuchi, Khagrabari, Khoirabari, Bhergaon, Panery and Tangla supported by PJACBM and NDFB (P), took out a massive torch rally throughout Tangla town on Monday evening.

The activists shouting slogans 'No Bodoland No rest' 'Divide Assam 50-50' demanded early solution to the long-pending demand of creation of separate Bodoland and political rights for Bodos living outside the proposed Bodoland area.

"Our voices have been ignored,the democratic protest through means of non-violence have been ignored said ABSU activist Manmohan Boro. Addressing the gathering of nearly 500 protestors the student body leaders exhorted the Centre to come up with a pragmatic policy on the Bodoland issue . The speakers said that the saffron party is busy celebrating their victory in different state polls ignoring the hunger strike by Bodo people at Kokrajhar in demand of Bodoland.

ABSU condemns Maheswar Boro

The Kalaigaon local unit of All Bodo Students' Union have condemned the recent statement made by BPF candidate for 69 No. Kalaigaon LAC Maheswar Boro in a election campaign that President Diganta Boro and General Secretary Firoz Kanta Basumatari of the Kalaigaon local unit of the ABSU are supporters of BPF. The student body have condemned the statement with strong words and also asked the BPF candidate to debar from making such false claims near future which brings the reputation of the student body in  bad light stated a press release issued by Densrang Boro Vice President of the local unit of ABSU on Saturday.  

Massive violence feared during polls

Despite vigilance of the law enforcement agencies, a number of clashes and attacks took place in the last couple of days in Udalguri district centring first phase assembly elections on April 4. After two separate incidents were two persons from tea community were killed in the district by unknown miscreants few days back. In yet another incident two college students were attacked by miscreants on Friday night at Bhergaon. Both the students have been identified as Dipankar Rabha (19) and Rituraj Rabha (17) . Tribal Sangha burns BJP's Vision document

Opposing BJP Vision Document stand to grant ST status to six communities of the state, Bhergaon District Tribal Sangha burnt copies of the BJP's vision document at Bhergaon on Tuesday. The Sangha also said that the decision  of the saffron party to grant ST status to six communities will greatly hamper the indigenous tribal communities of the state. The Sangha also alleged that the much anticipated 1000 crore special package to BTC would not benefit the tribal communities. They also alleged that the vision document won't benefit the indigenous communities.  

3,97494 voters to decide fate of 26 candidates in Udalguri district

With assembly polls to be held on April 4 first phase in Udalguri district every political parties have geared up by leaving no stone unturned to grab the three assembly constituencies namely Udalguri, Panery, Mazbat of the district. Though the ruling BPF alongwith BJP and AGP have come under one umbrella in BTC region. National seminar at Khoirabari College

The Department of Assamese, Khoirabari College is going to organsie a UGC sponsored national seminar on April 23-24 on "Human Values and Creative literature". The department invites papers from professors, research scholars and students. The sub-themes are Human Values in pre and post independence literature, human values in the works of Sankardeva and human value and contemporary society. Educational awareness programme at Borengajuli

An education awareness programme  was organised  at Borengajuli Santipur village of Udalguri district on Sunday. The programme was organised by Pherengadao NGO and presided by village headmen Ragen Basumatari. Social worker Atul Boro highlighted erratic electrical power supply in the village. Children of this remote village, inhabited mostly by tea tribe community, avoid going to schools. Most women in teh village lack formal education. The organsiation has decided to setup a non-formal education centre in the village.
