Wild elephants kills 1, injures 2

One person died on the spot while two others received injury due to elephant attack on SUnday night at Saralpara village along Indo-Bhutan border in Kokrajhar district.

According to villagers, a herd of wild elephant reached the village by 10 pm and vandalized around five houses too in the village where a person was trampled to death and two others received serious injuries. Injured were rushed to Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital. Victim was identified as Lal Bahadur Chetry (58), and injures are Dinonath Adhikari (70) and one is yet to he known. 

Forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma said that the wild elephants come out along the human habituated area in search of foods, so the conflict in between man and elephants are happening in the state

The Intercity (UP) crushed yo death s person in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday. Identified as  Bakul Barman, the 58 years old man was a resident of Somayee village under Sapatgram police station of Dhubri district. Hundreds of venture school teachers from BTAD areas staged a five-hour dharna in front of DC office in Kokrajhar on Tuesday demanding steps to provincialize their schools and to, amend the DISE code as soon as possible. Organized by All BTC Venture Primary Teachers Association, the sit in was participated by the teachers of 2065 venture schools (Lower Primary and Upper Primary) in four districts of BTAD. The  BTC Legislative Assembly has begun its summer session from Tuesday at Bodoland Assembly House in Kokrajhar. The session was chaired by Tridiv Daimary, speaker of the BTC Legislative Assembly. The Centre’ decision to institute CBI probe into the assassination of Lafikul Islam Ahmed has brought a ray of hope for his family members. Talking to Assam Times, his family  members said that the CBI probe will be able to nab main culprits’ thorough investigations, who were involved with Lafikul murder case.  Lafikul was shot dead on August 1 last at Titaguri bazaar in Kokrajhar by motor cycle borne armed miscreants. Road communication was totally disrupted since 5 am in the morning due to National Highway blockade by women in support of Bodoland state creation along the National Highways at Kajalgaon in Chirang and Orang in Udalguri districts on Monday.  Several thousand women thronged the highways to blockade the national highways at Kajalgaon in Chirang district seeking early solution of Bodoland issue. The first annual conference of the BTC unit Assam government driver and handymen association was held at Irrigation Guest House in Kokrajhar with long programme on Sunday. The conference discussed thoroughly on the various issue and grievances of the government driver and handymen, who are working as drivers in the government offices. ABMSU along with several other organisations blocked the National Highway in several places in lower Assam districts on Saturday demanding Justice to Lafikul Islam Ahmed who was killed by unidentified on Aug 1 this month. :Forest department and SSB in a joint operation seized a truck carrying smuggled team logs  in Kokrajhar on Friday. The truck was intercepted at Sonapur Samsingkela area near Champawati River early in the morning. The smugglers were believed to have brought the timbers from nearby jungle to be seized by a joint team of forest department and SSB. An wagon R vehicle and two bikes were also recovered from the spot. No one was arrested so far.  'We have input about smuggling of Sal timbers via 31C National Highway late last night and followed the movement if the smuggling able to seized huge amounts of timbers ',said a senior forest department official.
