Workshop on child labour held

A zonal workshop on child labour was held at Basic Training Centre in Kokrajhar with coinciding the observance of the World Day against Child Labour 2017 in Assam on Wednesday. Government employees, tea estate managers, activists and social workers participated in the workshop from four districts of BTAD.

 Bibekananda Choudhury, Deputy Comissioner,Kokrajhar lighted the lamp to inaugurate the workshop which discussed thoroughly about child labour that has been increasing day by day among society in the region.The workshop was organized by district administration, Kokrajhar in association with Sarva Siksha Abhijan(SSA), Kokrajhar, department of Labour and UNICEF,Assam.

 The four districts of BTAD have average 5.3% percent of child labour under  5-14 years among society. As per census source of 2011,in Kokrajhar district,11793(boys- 6738 and girls-5024)  child are involved with child labour figuring 5.7% of proportion of total population in the district. A total 7002 child(boys-3154 and girls-3844) figuring  6.1% of proportion polulation are recorded working as child labour in Chirang district. In Baksa district,11139 child(boys-6182 and girls-4957)  child are recorded as working labour figuring 5.5% from proportion population. Altogether 7738 child(boys-3381 and girls-4357) are recorded working as labour firguring 4.2% of proportion population in Udalguri district.

 Veena Singh,communication for development officer,UNICEF,Assam graced as resource person the occasion and presented situation of child vulnerabilities in the concerbed districts with a particular focus on child labour and out of school children. She said that as per census report in 2011 huge children are involved with labour job to meet up their life and families. Ratnadeep Bhattacharjee,secretary of district legal services authory,Kokrajhar also graced as resource person and highlighted reasons of child labour in the state.

  Biren Chandra Phukan,BTC Principal Secretary said that the workshop discussed on the child labour that has been seeing increasing among society. The discussion would be short out various measures to eliminate child labour structure among society,Phukan said.

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar. A five-day mountaineering training program, organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Welfare department of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government, begins on Thursday at the Dangdupur Hills Site in Kokrajhar. On Friday, the government of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) observed the third BTR Peace Accord Day as "Day of Peace" on Friday.  A massive bike peace rally was held in Kokrajhar, the "City of Peace." Three individuals, including former MLA and senior BPF (Bodoland People's Front) leader Hitesh Basumatary, were arrested by police in Baksa district after a search operation at Basumatary's residential complex resulted in the recovery of a large cache of illegal arms and ammunition. Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) team won the trophy defeating Lai Autonomous Council (LADC) of Mizoram 1-0 in the final match of inter sixth schedule premier league -2022 being held at SAI SAG center,Kathalguri Titaguri in Kokrajhar district.
