New short film: Obosheshot

Assamese short film, Obosheshot (At Last...), directed by filmmaker Arindam Barooah, is based on a short story titled, 'Devdoot' by Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia. The film is a fictional drama that explores the subject of essence of mother’s sacrifice and love towards her children. It has been selected for various Film Festivals in and outside India

This story is about Numoli, a young girl who belongs to a village crippled by superstitions. In the midst of this, is the mother whose love and sacrifice for her child acts as a barrier against the tribulations of the world and her strives to give her child a voice, the use of which she has forfeited due to unfortunatecircumstances.

The film manages to impress jury and received accolades &official selections in various Film Festivals like 'Honourable Jury Mention Award at the prestigious 7th Dada SahebPhalke Film Festival -17, Delhi,Special Festival Mention at 6th Bangalore Shorts Film Festival-17 and Outstanding Achievement Award at Calcutta International Cult Film Festivaland have been officially selected for screenings at other film festivals like the prestigious 12th Cyprus International Film Festival, Pafos, Cyprus, FICOCC - FIVE CONTINENTS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL- 2017,  Venezuela , Barcelona Planet Film Festival, Spain, SHORT to the Point - International Short Film Festival 2017, Bucharest, Romania, 6th Kolkata Shorts International Film Festival-2017& Meraki International Short Film Festival, Bangalore. The film was also invited by Department of Mass Communication of GauhatiUniversity for screening on its occasion of Annual Fest, Communika. 

The Leads have been played by DipikaGogoi&AnjjanDhonBordoloi. Other supporting casts include Debo Kumar Rajkhowa, Jharna Sharma Devchoudhury, Padma Dolakasharia, AnamikaSensua, PratimGogoi etc. 

The Script has been penned down by Rita BhuyanBarooah&BhavnaDevchoudhury.Cinematography is done by ThangmaismNishantaSingha&BhaskarJyoti Dutta. DigantaGogoiis the Editor and Production Controller/Line Producer of the film is Kamal Rajkhowa. Music has been scored byJagoranSaikia. NibeditaSaikia&Dilwar Ahmed are the Assistant Directors of the film. The short film was shot in the vicinity of Duliajan, Assam like Sasoni, KachariPathar with a limited budget & crew.

 

 

 




Synopsis of ‘Oboseshot (At last...)’

What happens when the child of a demon is born in a village, where superstitions run amok? Where people are gripped by fear and apprehension. In the midst of this, is the mother whose love and sacrifice for her child acts as a barrier against the tribulations of the world. It is the tale of Numoli, who strives to give her child a voice, the use of which she has forfeited. While the villagers deem her to be possessed and impregnated by the demon, only she knows what hurts her. And when the demon returns to her life, although she is filled with rage and hatred, all she can ask for is her voice; to teach her child to speak and who needs his mother’s voice to comfort him. For now, only the words ‘bou’ (Mother) in her child’s voice can sweep away all her life.

Ravaging inferno in Guwahati city heart

GUWAHATI: Properties worth two crore were reduced to ashes when a devastating fire ravaged four buildings in the heart of the Guwahati city on Monday. The incident took place at D Neog Path in ABC area in the wee hours where one of the buildings caught fire because of electric short circuit which later spread to the three adjacent buildings after a few LPG cylinders exploded under the impact of the fire. Six firefighter took nearly three to four hours to bring the situation under fire. The total extent of damage has yet to be ascertained.

Mounting pressure to hang Dhing rapists

BIJOY K BURAGOHAINJORHAT: Hundreds of people hit the streets in Golaghat demanding Justice for the minor girl in Dhing whom three miscreants gangraped and burnt alive on Friday afternoon. Organized by the Golaghat unit of Asom Premi Yuva Chatra Samaj, over 500 local residents spilled to the roads asking the authority to  immediately arrest the main culprit Zakir Hussain, who is still on the run. The participating protestors demanded capital punishment for the perpetrators saying that this measure is the only way to firmly deal with these raising cases of rape and murder. Decomposed body found in Chakrashila

Kokrajhar, Mar 25: An unidentified  body  strikes no less sensation in Kokrajhar after it was recovered at Chakrashila forest area in Choraikola in on Sunday.According to police, local residents spotted the decomposed hanging on a tree and informed it to the police in the morning. The body yet to identified and recovered on hanged.According to police, the body was noticed yesterday along the Chakrashila forest area by local public and intimated to the police. Local residents said that it took place a few days ago along the Chakrashila forest.

Jagiroad woman raped and killed

JAGIROAD: Yet another suspected incident of rape and murder triggers no less shock and sensation across thr state on Saturday. A woman who worked with a brick kiln in Jagiroad was found dead inside the house of her co worker who was believed to have raped her before being killed. Acting on a complaint the Jagiroad police have raided the house of Sadek Ali where the body was recovered. Police men probing the case have been interrogating Ali who is suspected to have committed the double crime on the day of the Batadrawa incident where three miscreants gangraped a minor girl insider her house before  burning her alive who later succumbed to her injuries on the way to Guwahati.

Amit Shah sets vision 21 in next LS polls

 Guwahati: BJP is set to script yet another history of landslide victory in the north eastern region in the next Lok Sabha polls if Amit Shah is to be believed.   Sounding panchayat poll bugle at a huge rally in Guwahati on Saturday the party president claimed to have got wind of a surging wave of the people in the eight states. GUWAHATI: People are throbbing in thousands in Guwahati on Saturday to hear Amit Shah when the BJP president is sounding bugle for the upcoming panchayat polls. Party in rank and file have been gearing up to make the rally a success where Shah along with other heavyweights in the party will explain what the grass root leaders and activists should do to ensure a landslide victory in the rural body polls which would be the base for the next year’s Lok Sabha polls. Akhil tears apart Centre

GUWAHATI: KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi on Friday tore apart the NDA government at the Centre for removing the special category state status for the northeastern states. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Gogoi said, "Assam is known for pathetic economic health where there is hardly any process of development. The state has been lagging behind on the infrastructure front. The Centre accorded special category status in 1969 to help the state get more fund. But the BJP led  government has finished it.” “Not only Assam. Other north eastern states will have to pay heavy price after losing the status thanks to Narendra Modi,”said the KMSS leader.

All out against Hindutva culture

GUWAHATI: RTI activist Akhil Gogoi has given hint of a massive agitation in Assam to keep at bay the RSS-BJP sponsored Hindutva culture calling it a huge threat to the state’s social fabric. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, Gogoi, the KMSS leader said the All Indian Kisan Sabha would also be the part of his organization’s statewide agitation to thwart the culture in question. "After being voted to power, BJP has been trying to destroy our age old social fabric in the name of Hindutva which to make Assam another Gujarat which we wont allow to happen. We are fully prepared to fight,” said Gogoi.

Bonhomie boost with Bhutan

GUWAHATI: The Indo-Bhutan bonhomie is set to receive a huge boost if the golden jubilee celebration  of the formal diplomatic relations is any indication.The Himalayan kingdom celebrated the Festival of Assam at Thimphu on Thursday and Friday at Hotel Taj Tashi, which was attended by the Home Minister of Bhutan, Dawa Gyeltshen, Home Secretary of Bhutan, Sonam Topgay, the Ambassador of India to Bhutan, Jaideep Sarkar and the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Bhutan.
